In the box…
When we first opened the box, which was heavy, especialy for my not so strong friend, we have found the reason for that heaviness. In the box were the folowing parts:
- one subwoofer in cubic shape (30 W RMS)
- one center speaker (21 W RMS)
- four satellites (each 7 W RMS)
- decoder/amplifier
- huge and heavy adapter
- mucho cables and connectors
- speaker stands
- remote controller and batteries for it
- stickers
- CD with drivers and utillities
Features
One of the first things I saw were the paper cone drivers on the satellites and subwoofer. I hope that this production costs cut made some nice money savings for Creative. In about 4 years you can expect some distorsions and faulty sound reproducing from speakers, what makes one of the bigest cons for speakers. When you're buying speakers for about 350 $, you probably expect to use it for a longer time. If Logitech can, I think that Creative should also...
The next thing I object is the size of membrans on speakers. The satellites with 2 inch membrans and the center with 3 inch membrans are a litlle bit to small, don't you think?
Problem with center is it's power (21 W RMS) in relation to other speakers, and it had to be set on half of the scale, so it would not overtake high and low frequencies, what also maked some problems center channel positioning. Perhaps the satellites should be more powerfull.
Despite that, sound was very clear, but the surround effect suffered. In games, for instance, middle frequencies were unable to reproduce so well when something was going on on the left or right. Perhaps that could be solved with 3 inch low-middle drivers on satellites.
The sub is, despite it's rather low 30 W RMS, extremely powerfull, and whole room was trembling so hard, that I was affraid it would brake the glass on my doors.
Speakers cover frequency area from 30 – 20000 Hz, what is almost unrecognizable to human ear.
Cables provided were: optical cable, standard 4-channel cable (for satellites), coaxial, DIN cable, and all of them have gilded.
Reciever unit is has a DTS and DD™ 5.1 decoder and is to be put in horizontal position.
Sound quality
At finaly we came to the most important part; THE TESTING. I have played CDs, watch DVDs, played some games with 5.1 support ( Return To Castle Wolfenstein) and stuff.
I can say that speakers were very pleasant to listen with no distorsions and cracking, except in highest volume. The system is very loud and I had some problems with my cranky neighbors. They didn't know what hit them. They were thinking that all four riders of accopolipse are coming. But who goes to sleep before 12 pm this days? Am I right, or am I right?
With all it's advanced technologies like Dolby Digital, DTS or the CMSS (Creative Multi Speaker Surround) you can turn it into home cinema system. The separation is good, surround effects are excellent, despite problem with center speaker, and the center speaker knows his job with vocals.
Conclusion
Creative Inspire 5700 had some flaws, as I have written before in the text. Center speaker is perhaps unsyncronised with rest of the system and the price is perhaps to high for that kind of system and it's possibilities.
I think that serious music listeners and movie freaks should avoid this system, because this system offers to little for that amount of money and they should purchase some serious stuff. On the other side, if you are are not so burden with audiophilic sound and need great computer sound system go for it.
