| eploy's Full Review: Creative Technology Nomad Jukebox (32 MB) MP3 Play... |
With a high tech magnesium casing it's solid, it's sleek looking, and as corny as it sounds it's fun to own.. and show off. Especially since it's the first player with 64MB of RAM for under $200. Or if you don't want to spend that much you can always go with the 32 MB version. (the 64 Mb version is just a 32 Mb player with a smartmedia card included).
What separates the Nomad from other player is the FM radio, an awesome extra that not many manufactuers have the foresight to include. With a radio, having only an hour of sotred music becomes less of a drawback because you always have something to fall back on.
It has a docking station which may not be a con to all, but it is to me. A parallel port connector instead of USB doesn't help much either.
Conclusion:
Even though the Nomad had potential, Creative never really got off to a good start. From the very beginning supply has been low. May consumers who finally got a unit after waiting 8 months were cursed with a faulty LCD which would break after one or two weeks of usage. The magnesium case, as cool as it may be, was just to difficult to machine and Creative finally gave up on it. The Nomad II has been released already, I'd suggest forgeting about the Nomad 64. Hopefully Creative will be on the ball this time.
