How does she do it? How does she keep turning out dog mysteries without them getting stale?

Conant's characterizations are, as always, excellent. Beyond that, the interactions between characters are great. I'm not going to give anything away, but I can't wait for the next book, because I can't believe that Conant is going to leave Holly's romantic situation as it is. Holly's father, Buck, returns, and he's always a delight. In this book, he shows his more sensitive side -- frankly I didn't think he had one, and it's good to see.
I enjoy Susan Conant's work so much that I actually bought this book in hardback without waiting for the paperback version -- and I rarely do that, except for the Harry Potter books. I'm glad I did. This book is worth the extra bucks.
