When Crest purchased the Spinbrush design from Dr Johns they kept the basic design concept for about the first year. The Dr. Johns principal was simple, create an electric toothbrush that would clean teeth but was disposable but at an affordable price. Crest made some small changes to the Classic series but the best one had to have been introducing the replaceable heads. Before this was a feature, the only thing that could be replaced on the toothbrush were the batteries but most of the time the batteries outlasted the head. This doesnt mean that this will be the last Spinbrush youll ever purchase because over time the bodies do wear out but being able to purchase replacement heads truly increases the overall value of the Crest Classic Spinbrush.
Crest Spinbrush Classic Replacement Brush Heads
When looking for replacement heads, make sure you are looking for the correct model. Spinbrush has several different styles available and while some of them will work with other styles, some will not. If you have a childrens Spinbrush chances are the heads are not replaceable so make sure you check the neckband to see if the head can be removed. There are two heads per pack and come in a variety of colors so if you are someone that needs to be color coordinated, rest assured youll be able to find one that matches your Spinbrush. The heads come packaged on a blister card and individually sealed so the remaining one will be free of dust and dirt until its time for it to be used. Be sure to open the package carefully so the second head will remain sealed however if you are a little overzealous opening it, just pop it in a zipper bag until you need it.
To replace the head all you need to do is grasp the top part of the neck and twist it until the head pops off. If you recently used the Spinbrush you might want to do this over the sink since some water might be left inside the chamber. Ive only experienced this when replacing heads after the initial one was spent and replaced. This leads me to think that once the initial head is removed it breaks some type of seal that doesnt affect the performance of the toothbrush in the least but water can build up inside the neck. Toss the old head in the trash and replace it with the new one slide it on to the neck of the toothbrush and turn it until it locks in place. If you have any trouble with this, you can check out the Crest website where they have a visual tutorial on how to change the heads.
The replacement heads range in price from $3.99 to $6.99 depending on where you shop. Ive found these at Wal-Mart and Target for about $3.99 a great price to start with but if you can catch them on sale [usually for $2.99] and use a $1.00 off coupon you are looking at a tremendous savings. Most online stores sell these for about $5.99 for the two head package so if you cant find them locally, this is an option. Most of the time I get these for about $3.00 a pop when Wal-Mart has a price roll back on them. Since Im not all that picky about the color schemes and dont need to have them match I can pick up whatever is available or left over once the sale has started. These are definitely cheaper than purchasing a whole new unit and over a period of time, they pay for themselves when you look at what youd be paying for standard non-electric toothbrushes.
Things To Know
There is no rule about how often you should change the heads. Most dentists and oral care providers suggest replacing your toothbrush every three months but if you are a frequent brusher, you may need to change the head more often. I generally go through one every six to eight weeks but the boys are ruthless brushers and need theirs replaced once a month. They have a few of the childrens varieties as well as the Classic version [and the new Colgate Bionicle] but as I mentioned earlier, most of the electric toothbrushes designed for kids do not have replaceable heads. Thankfully they are starting to use the ones that can be replaced more often than the ones that are truly disposable.
The Bottom Line
By purchasing the replacement heads you can extend the life of your Spinbrush Classic electric toothbrush and since they come two to a pack, you can always have a spare on hand when traveling or when you need to swap it out for a fresh one. The quality of the replacement heads is just as impressive as the ones that come with the toothbrush and will stand up to a good bit of use before the bristles start to bend or look a bit tattered. Of course, if you are a hard brusher you may need to replace them a bit more often than others but even so you can expect at least a good month or two from each of them. Stop wasting money on regular toothbrushes that dont have the power to blast off plaque and leave your teeth feeling pristine and clean invest in the Crest Classic Spinbrush and dont forget to pick up the replacement heads for even greater savings!
As always, thanks for the visit!
