In high school, after I got my braces off, my teeth were looking a little dull, so I started using regular Crest Whitestrips. Once I got towards the end of the two weeks, everyone started commenting on how incredibly white and beautiful my teeth were. My little sister even noted that my teeth were whiter than the whites of my eyes! And I didn't even finish off the entire box!
But that was almost five years ago, and though the whiteness lasted for YEARS (as opposed to 6 months as the box stated) slowly my teeth started to get that dull gray tinge again. I first noticed it in a picture with a few other friends and I realized my teeth were the least white of the bunch...they didn't look bad, but it hit me how I used to look at pictures of myself where my teeth were just so white! So I then decided it was time to buy another box of whitestrips, and I decided to check out Crest Whitestrips Premium (and I caved and got Plus...it's only ten dollars more and it lasts 18 months).
As far as the pain, I remember wearing the regular kind and experiencing absolutely no pain. I remember thinking to myself that everyone must have just been making up the whole pain thing or something, because the only unpleasantness I experienced was the slightly glue-like taste of the peroxide and drooling on myself :) And the first two or three times I used the Premium strips, there was no pain, but soon my teeth started to get really sensitive and the first few moments of having the strips on required me to concentrate and think happy thoughts for the dull pain I could feel all throughout my teeth. It's definitely bearable, but it still kinda hurts. But it only lasts maybe 30 seconds and then it disappears completely. And my teeth do become mildly sensitive throughout the day, but it's nothing terrible.
But even though I'm not even half done with the box, my teeth are already looking fantastic and almost as white as they were before! And I would never use any of those paint-on whitening liquids or even generic whitening strips. I swear by Crest Whitening Strips and they are worth every ounce of pain a hundred times over. You just have to suck it up and remember how good you'll look afterwards :)
