We picked up the Crinkle Cave on a whim when we were shopping, it looked like a neat little pop-up tent for cats and we thought it could give the cats someplace to curl up and be cozy and it was only about eight bucks.
The Crinkle Cave kind of resembles a pop-up tent, as I mentioned before. It is a pretty good size, giving enough room for even a large cat to curl up and sleep. It's approximately 26 1/2 inches long, 18 inches deep and about 17 inches tall, by my measurements and it folds up flat for easy storage if you want it out of the way. The cave is made of a red canvas type material, with the bottom being similar to an actual tent bottom, but of thinner material. To keep it in an upright position, there are wires in the yellow trim that crisscross at the top, but also allows you to fold it flat, kind of hard to explain.
Inside the cave is a small, soft, red mat the will give a crinkling sound when your cat steps on it, hence the name, Crinkle Cave. At first the crinkling sound freaked Frisky out, he didn't know what was making it, but after a bit of investigating, it didn't bother him anymore. This is how we usually know when one of the cats is getting in the cave, by the crinkle sound.
The cave has three round holes for the cats to go in and out of as they please, one on the side and one each on the front and back. The cats don't seem to use the side one at all, usually just the front or back, the only time I've seen either one of them use the side is to make a quick escape when the other cat shows up.
There are also three dangling silky type straps attached to the top of the cave inside, I assume this is for the cats to play with while they are laying in there, but neither Frisky or Reva has appeared to be interested in them. I've tried moving them around while one of the cats are laying in the cave, but that usually just gets them to try and play with my hand and not the straps.
The cave also comes with a short tunnel like flap that attaches to the opening. We keep this off since it attaches by Velcro and doesn't really stay on easily, plus the cats were pretty wary of it. They also say that these little tunnel like things allow you to attach more than one cave together by buying more attachments.
The Crinkle Cave is big enough for a large cat to curl up and lay in comfortably, Frisky is a fairly big boy at 14 pounds, plus he's tall and he has no trouble laying in the cave. It gives the cats a place to curl up and sleep where they think they'll be safe even in a busy room, especially if you put it in a corner. Frisky use to lay in it all the time, he just loved to curl up and take a nap in it, but he doesn't do it that often since Reva decided to start using it. Once Reva decided to start using it for naps, he stopped going in there, maybe it's because of the dirty looks she gives him when he goes near it.
If your cat already has a nice and cozy bed, they may not be that interested in this, but if they don't, you might consider picking this up and giving it a try, it can give them an enclosed place to take a nap and also they can play in it, just because mine don't play doesn't mean yours won't.
