| jenni796's Full Review: Crowne Plaza Hotel TIMES SQUARE MANHATTAN |
I started traveling to New York City a couple times a month with my son as part of an autism research study at Mt. Sinai.
We had previously gone up to NY (about a 3 hr. drive) each year at Christmas but usually stayed outside of the city. When we found out that our trips would be frequent and last a few nights at a time, I didn't have any particular hotel in mind but my son wanted to stay in the 'middle' of Times Square so I found the Crowne Plaza through an online search and they had a room available on short notice. Last year we spent more than 30 nights at Crowne Plaza. We did try a few other hotels but Crowne Plaza is our favorite for staying in the center of the city.
The Online reservation system is easy to navigate and guarantees the lowest price available on the Internet. It's also easy to change or cancel reservations online. I have called the toll free number to make and change reservations a few times and the phone staff was friendly and helpful as well. Rooms vary in price depending on the time of year and the day of the week. Off times can be as low as 179. per night and around the holidays it can be as high as 479. per night (249. is the average that we usually pay per night for 1 room with 2 double beds).
Check-in is usually quick and smooth providing it's not a Thursday or Friday afternoon. The rooms are always clean and neat. Each room only has one TV with limited cable and video game options so if you have more than a couple people per room, you should bring another form of entertainment. There aren't any refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms but they do include coffee makers and hair dryers. All rooms have high-speed Internet for a 'fee' and some rooms have wireless Internet (also for a fee). The bathrooms are large and comfortable with plenty of clean towels. All the rooms are very comfortable with nice beds covered in soft white linens with down comforters. The rooms are much quieter than most other hotels in the area.
The food at Crowne Plaza is always outstanding! The prices in the restaurant are fairly reasonable considering it's NYC and the quality is always well worth the price. The menu has a large variety of meats, seafood, chicken, pasta dishes, salads, etc. If you are looking for convenience, room service costs more tacking on extra fees but it's always fast and tastes as good as eating in the restaurant. Sodas are much cheaper from the vending machines located on each floor than they are from room service as well. They do offer a kids menu with pizza, chicken, all the basic kids favorites and have very good desserts too.
The Crowne Plaza is one of the few hotels in the city with an indoor pool. The 15th floor is part of the New York Sports Club which I've only been as far as the pool for my kids to swim which they enjoy.
The Priority Club is the frequent traveler incentive program used at the Crowne Plaza (which is also associated with Holiday Inn). With each stay and purchase made at the hotel, points are earned and can be redeemed for free hotel stays, merchandise, or airline mileage. I joined the program when I made my first reservation and the points have accrued quicker than most other frequent traveler programs that I've joined.
The Crowne Plaza in Times Square is the perfect location. There are so many great things to see and places to shop and eat within walking distance. Valet parking is expensive at $50. per day, but again, this is NYC and you don't have a lot of other options.
Compared to other large hotels in the same area, I prefer the Crowne Plaza overall because of the location, great food, and customer service.
