| megugrrrl's Full Review: Crunk Energy Drink, Sugar-Free |
Back in the 80s, I was really into those syrupy vitamin B drinks in the teeny brown bottles - ever heard of Lipovitan B? Yum. Somehow I was convinced it was doing something good to my body. When Red Bull started breaking out in the late 90s, (and when I first heard of vitamin drinks AND caffeine) I was hooked.
Apparently, so were a lot of other people. Seems like every other time I'm at 7-11 there's another energy drink on the shelf. I've actually enjoyed watching the popularity increase. I've tried enough of them - maybe almost 30 different kinds - mostly sugar free, to know what I like. I moved away from the mediciney taste of Red Bull, went through a short Rockstar phase (until I learned the father of the CEO is Michael Savage), and today I have a short list of favorites, with Monster Lo-Carb being #1. (...Lost, Sugarfree Bawls, Go Girl!, and Monster Kaos are on the top.)
On occasion I'll try something new if the can catches my fancy...I generally avoid the ones with silly obnoxious names like Pimp Juice (although I wanted to try Liquid Cocaine but I think they've stopped making it.) I'm also not in the target demographic of a lot of gimmicky ones, so they just look really stupid to me.
Like Crunk!!!
I would've never tried a can of Crunk!!! on my own - there is nothing crunk about me - crunk the movement and I have very little in common. The can is also obnoxiously ugly. It's too busy - like too much bling. But... I did try a can, and it ain't half bad! (yeah, yeah!)
Taste
There is no diet energy drink out there that doesn't taste a little weird. Some are less face-grimacing than others, and a few are even quite pleasant. Crunk!!! gets a B+ for taste.
It's got a solid cherry flavor (despite the pomegranate and cranberry content) and is a little on the puckery sour side, which gives your tongue a little slap. It kind of reminds me of cherry flavored cough syrup, but in a good way. Crunk!!! has a bold taste - more of a punch than something soothing.
My boyfriend, who is the pickiest energy drink guy I know really liked Crunk!!! Don't think he'd switch, but he gave it the thumbs up.
Ingredients
Crunk!!! has more than B-vitamins and caffeine - lots of weird herbal things like ashwaganda and horny goat weed, which honestly I don't really care that much about. I'm sure the different additives and ingredients promote certain things, but from they way I understand most herbs to work, you need to use it consistently for months. I'm not going to drink Crunk!!! everyday for six months for my senses to be aroused. It's really clever marketing though.
Effects
I drank a little 8 ounce can this morning - 100mg of caffeine. I can usually drink a big 16 ounce can of something else, so I didn't really feel a big jolt. I did open up another one to write this review, and I started feeling like I couldn't focus on any one thing because my mind was racing. (But it does that a lot on its own.) No feeling aroused - but it seemed to suppress my appetite for a while.
In Summation
Crunk!!! isn't bad at all - it seems like it would be an acquired taste that would be easy to acquire. I'm not ready to switch to Crunk!!!, but I'd definitely pick it over Red Bull or Full Throttle any day.
Thanks Bruguru and Crunk!!! for the free samples.
