Pros:I rank this mower to as good as it gets, 4.5 stars.
Cons:None to speak of.
The Bottom Line: If you're a homeowner with over a couple acres to mow, this is a good mower to look over.
Getting my ExMark Lazer back this morning after several weeks on deck spindle repairs, I was kind of sadden returning this Cub Cadet 54 Zero Turn back in. With all the business I generate with my dealer, he lets me test drive new products or if something goes wrong like this situation he covers my back by giving me a mower to replace the one being worked on. This 54 inch deck is what I can compliment most about this mower. Making turf lines is so important for my customers these days and this machine has the gumption for making almost perfect lines. The reason being there is enough space between the belly of the deck and the cutting blades to create great suction pulling up every hair of grass to be manicured. With capability I was able to go full speed at 7-9 miles an hour depending if I was on a incline grade or flat lawn.

The 11 gauged steel is a natural chain floating deck is balanced with 4 black poly plastic rollers and 2 grease fitting wheels on the front corners to prevent from scalping. The three spindles underneath are operated by a Kevlar serpentine belt that when you pull on the Power Take Off knob makes a low humming noise when the three 19 inch blades are activated. The foot lever on the right side on the deck lets you adjust your cutting length from 1.5 to 4.0 in quarter inch increments. The top plate on the deck is 7 gauge steel and it supports my 300 pound body without any problems. The height adjuster, parking brake and the lapbars all have molded rubber handle grips on them. The 1.5 x 2.0 inch welded tubular frame is rock solid when mowing estate fields like I do. Just over the frame on the right side is your fuel tank and your mowing dashboard, this is where you'll find your ignition, PTO knob, and your hour meter. On the left is your ever essential cup holder.
Comparing the 24 HP Kohler Courage V-Twin OHV engine is quieter than my ExMark Kohler Command 27 horsepower and has about the same power strengths to the ExMark. The only bias is that the ExMark is made for commercial work load as to where this Cub Cadet Z Force is made for large residential homes and not being pushed everyday to the maximum. I will say this machine handled itself gracefully and never once backed down to any turf challenged I gave it. With the zero turn radius making complete 360 turns was very easy and the 3-way adjustable lapbars catered to your every turn. I like how sensitive the lapbars are, just a simple nudge to stay straight or backing up on my ramp to my trailer was simplicity in the purest form. Another thing, the 4.25 gallon gas tank will provide you with 5 hours of mowing time so if you have 3 or more acres to mow this might be the mower you want.
The fully-pressurized lubrication system for both the engine and hydraulic transmission make maintenance a breeze with easy access The main reasons of doing this for me is if you have a lawn full of Dandelions, the seeds get caught on the belly of the deck and the next lawn you do it's easy for the seeds to be transferred. The lever parking brake helps you stop the mower and with the PTO disengaged you can get off the mower while it's running to pick up trash or the toys that lie on the ground. With 13x5 inch ribbed tires on the front and 20x10 inch on the back gives a balance to this 11 gauged steel frame body. On a scale from 1 to 10 I give it a eight for incline mowing, not the perfect 10 I gave it's brother the Cub Cadet 48 inch Z Force because it's wider body. I didn't have any problems what so ever, it's just I had to nudge the opposite lapbar to keep the body straight on that incline. With the foot rest incline floor panel it's easy to balance your own weight for being on a slant mowing. The length of the mower is 70 inches with a nice wide wheel base of 43 inches, with a brazen weight of 740 pounds you will need a street and highway trailer to haul.
Overall, it is a pleasure to hop in the seat of this Cub Cadet 54 Inch Z Force zero turn mower. It gives you the ultimate comfort of a commercial size seat on a residential mower. The seat has arm rests so you can be comfortable as you mow. Maneuvering is very easy and this machine will provide many years of service if proper maintenance is performed. There are 12 grease fitting that need to be greased at least once a month for residential use, every other day if you use it on a commercial basis. This machine comes with a 3 year/180 hour warranty and it's main purpose is for residential mowing.
