Cons:single use appliance

The Bottom Line: I would recommend this waffle maker to anyone who wants to make low cost and healthy waffles from scratch.  The waffles are excellent!

I have always wanted a waffle maker but could never justify the purchase until one of our kids served us homemade waffles for breakfast.  Wow!  They were amazing.  I put a waffle maker on my wish list for small kitchen appliances.  Before I had a chance to buy a waffle maker, another of our kids gifted me with the Cuisinart 4-Slice Belgian Waffle Maker, model WAF-100C for Christmas.

This waffle maker is black with stainless steel accents that will look good in any kitchen.  It makes 4 authentic 1 - inch thick Belgian waffles with deep pockets to hold lots of toppings besides butter and syrup.  The plates are non-stick and a 5 setting browning control.   There are indicator lights to let you know when to pour the batter in along with an audible signal to let you know when your waffles are ready.  There is a limited 3-year warranty.

My Experience:

I washed the Cuisinart waffle maker before use then lightly greased the non-stick plates.  I used a pancake/waffle mix for the first batch and the basic waffle recipe from the included recipe booklet.   It does take a bit of tinkering to get the right amount of batter spread in the bottom plate but after a couple of attempts, I had no problems.  It also takes a bit of tinkering with the browning settings to get the waffles just the way you like them.  Over all the learning curve was low for using the waffle maker.    I had nice looking waffles in only two attempts.  I found the waffle maker  easy to use and very easy to clean.  All you do is set the browning setting then when the waffle maker is ready pour about 2 cups of prepared batter evenly over the bottom plate.  Shut the lid and allow the waffles to cook.  The waffle maker beeps when the waffles are cooked to the desired browness level.  I recommend using silicone tongs to remove the waffles so as to not scratch the non-stick surface of the plates.  The waffle maker does lock for cooking and vertical storage minimizing the amount of storage space needed.

If you have been buying store bought, frozen waffles then a waffle maker is for you.  The waffles are better tasting, bigger and considerably less expensive plus homemade waffles freeze nicely so you can make a big batch on the weekend for reheating in the toaster during the week.  Store bought waffles cost about 43 cents each.  Homemade waffles using a mix cost about 8 cents each and those made from scratch cost about 6 cents each.   Hands down the waffles made from the Cuisinart basic recipe had the best flavour.  I haven't tried the other recipes in the manual yet but I'm sure they won't disappoint.
