consumersunion's Full Review: Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Coffee Maker
After reading the reviews on this coffee maker on Epinions.com and Amazon I decided to see what all the fuse was about and purchase this unit. By the way $80 is a lot more than I would ever dream of spending on a coffee maker, but I decided to "just do it". Well, I'm not disappointed at all.
I purchased this unit about 2 weeks ago, and coffee has never tasted this good in my house before!
Before I broke down and spent the big bucks I thought "a coffee maker's a coffee maker, what's the big deal". Boy was I wrong. I don't know if it's in the brewing process or in the charcoal filter which is suppose to of course filter your water, but the taste of my coffee is truly unbelievable.
This coffee maker is beautiful in black and stainless steel. It shows fingerprints somewhat, but that's to be expected. It is easy to use. The coffee maker (including the pot) has a good solid heavy "feel". Neither feels lite(I'm talking about the weight). The coffee makers I've owned in the past kind of felt flimsy and lite. This one feels like solid construction.
I've had no problems pouring water in the back. I know that some reviewers had complained about that being a problem. You just have to be a little more careful because this unit is not made like the old Mr. Coffee units with a large opening in the back. This unit has a smaller opening in the back to pour water into, but I've adjusted to that and don't see it as a hindrance.
Like I said above, there's a charcoal filter that comes with this unit. It may contribute to the great taste of my coffee, but I have great tasting water anyway (we have filtered well water).
The unit makes 12 cups (full pot of coffee) in 10 minutes flat. That's right, I've timed it. For me that's pretty fast. At the end of the brewing cycle you hear five little beeps alerting you that the coffee is done. I honestly don't hear the beeps unless I'm in the kitchen (not very loud).
It comes with your standard features. With pause and brew you get to sneak a cup before it's through brewing. Of course you get a timer which allows for timed brewing. One neat thing about this coffee maker is you get to select how long you want the heating plate to stay on after brewing is over. I've used standard paper filters (#4) in this unit, and that has worked out just fine.
My favorite feature is the control temp for the heating plate. You get 3 selections: low, medium, and high. In other words you get to choose how hot you want your coffee to be. I've chosen medium every time, and it's pipping hot -almost hot enough to burn your tongue. Gone are the days of warm coffee. All of my previous units only made warm coffee, and I hated that.
This coffee maker makes the best cup of coffee that I've ever had, except in finer restaurants. No kidding, it's that good!
