emilygrace's Full Review: Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Coffee Maker
I was first attracted to this coffeemaker (Cuisinart DCC-1200) by its beautiful exterior- and a fondness for toggle switches. My boyfriend told me I'd never find one without plastic components, but this one comes close. Its sleek, retro exterior looks great with my kitchen.
I read reviews of it before purchasing, and was a little worried about people saying it didn't make coffee hot enough. This is a primary concern for me- I Hate cold coffee! But I was won over by the fact that more reviews than not had no complaints in this area.
And sure enough, it heats fine. Using the coffeemaker is very easy. It has a built-in water filter so you can use tap water, but I use filtered water anyway. It takes a #4 coffee filter and also has a built-in gold filter. I use them both, because I don't want to wash the gold one. I'm not sure it does any good, but I leave it in anyway because it makes it easy to remove the coffee grounds without getting your hands dirty. It's got a little handle on it!
I've had the coffeemaker almost a year and so far its performance has been consistent. As most people have mentioned, it gets condensation under the lid that drips down the back when you open it. I get around this by removing the used filter as soon as I've finished with the pot and leaving the lid open for a while. This prevents condensation from building up.
Every feature I was looking for in a coffeemaker is here, but I could've found those in many different models. It was the good looks of this model that won me over.
- Auto-on and auto-off, both easy to program
- The water filter, as I mentioned. They give you an order form for more inside the box, but they're also available at Bed, Bath, and Beyond
- Gold basket filter
- Adjustable carafe temperature (I haven't needed to adjust this since I bought it. Mine is at the almost-hottest level)
- Clock display
- A beep when the brew cycle is finished, and another when the Auto-off happens. I like the idea of this, though I find the beeping a little annoying.
If you look at this and love it, then definitely buy it. If you're just looking for any quality coffeemaker, I'd say you can find a quality model much cheaper.
