superstah's Full Review: Cuisinart Private Reserve CWC-900 Wine Cooler
We bought this wine chiller after our failed foray in online shopping for our previous wine chiller. We got it for about 200 dollars at BevMo in California.
Basically, we got what we were looking for. This is a nice looking, brushed silver wine refrigerator that uses thermoelectric cooling and minimal vibration. It holds 9 bottles on the racks and 2 bottles upright, and it fits nicely on the counter in our kitchen, right next to our big refrigerator.
There are 2 main problems with this chiller though.
One is that the display doesn't just display temperature. they have all these useless preset settings for pinot, red wine, syrah, chardonnay, etc. . . that it would be simpler to just have a temperature control. also, the preset settings don't tell you what temperature each of them are at. Finally, there is an option for a temperature control, but i can't tell if the temperature i'm entering is even registering with the fridge. Nonetheless, it has always kept the wines around 57-59 degrees.
The second problem is that the fan is very loud and is almost always on. There is no compressor, but i think the fan does cause a little bit of vibration. It's louder than our big refrigerator.
All in all, however, this is an aesthetically pleasing, reasonably functional addition to our kitchen.
This is a new update to this review (4/2/09) The stupid thing broke. Not only did it break, it actually heated up my wines higher than room temperature. I'm very unhappy with this thing. I had a bunch of really nice wines and at least 2 of them are ruined.
