Cons: Tiny and light numbered increments on the resevoir strip; Small area to pour in water
The Bottom Line:
Small reservoir for water and too small print for increments on water level strip, but most important is great temperature coffee, sturdy unit, wonderful features and easy to use.
lorirobe's Full Review: Cuisinart DCC-1100 12-Cup Coffee Maker
My Krups pot finally gave up and I had no idea what to buy in a coffeemaker! I purchased a new Krups model --hated the "fancy" features and returned it. I just brought home the Cuisinart 1100 today. I am very particular, so I think I will quite fairly be able to tell you exactly what you are getting.
Since I purchased this at Bed Bath and Beyond, I paid only $48 after using a 20% off coupon. This model is in white and it is very attractive.
The top of the machine opens very easily. Just open it up with your own two hands! No fancy pop ups or spring mechanisms that might break in time. The filter area is right there on top in the middle. No problem using paper or the chrome filter that comes with the machine. Also, a water filter is included.
The water resevoir is a bit out of the way. It is all the way on the right in a fairly narrow spot. So I recommend pouring the water slowly to avoid spills.
The biggest problem for me is that the water resevoir strip located on the side of the machine has the tiniest, lightest numbers and lines. I am pouring very slowly while trying hard to be sure I am reading the increments correctly.
I also can do without the five tones that signal the brewing has finished.
The rest is just perfection. Easy to use timer to program your brewing; 1-4 cup setting; automatic shut off in 0-4 hours (you choose). One dial knob is used for setting the clock, auto on, auto off and brewing. It is very easy to use, but read the direction booklet; it is simple and takes out the guesswork.
Coffee brews quickly and is a very good temperature; hot, but not burning hot. I have not had trouble using the caraffe. Gotta tilt it pretty low to pour--not a problem for me, though. The caraffe is of a good solid quality.
That covers it. If any of the problems are too big, I'd look elsewhere, but as I said, I am quite picky and find this to be an excellent choice.
