coffeeroaster's Full Review: Cuisinart DGB-600 10-Cup Coffee Maker
We had an earlier cuisinart coffemaker which was excellent. It used cone filters and made great coffee. When I started roasting my own beans, I wanted a grind and brew machine, but it had to have a thermal caraffe. Guess what? Cuisinart appears to be the only one on the market. We bought one, expecting the same performance as our earlier one. We were wrong.
First, the carafe leaks and drips like a joke dribble glass. Pour fast, pour slow, it doesn't matter. The thing loses one cup for every two you pour. It looks very stylish, but it doesn't function. It also keeps coffee only moderately warm for about four hours, compared to twelve for our earlier, glass lined carafe.
The grinder is not adjustable. It is a bean hog. I go through twice as much coffee as I did with the old one. The designers went for a flat bottom filter, apparently to keep the siloutte low. Another style over substance decision. The grounds do not get uniformly wet.
As nice as the machine looks, I'm shopping for something that makes better coffee, and keeps it drinkable for more than three hours, and doesn't use up over a pound a week.
Cuisinart should let the engineers have their way and give the stylists the day off.
