Cons:Grinder unit still a bit labor intensive to clean.
The Bottom Line:
Rebates and BBB coupons make the pot a good buy for the money
This is my second 10-cup, Grind and Brew Cuisinart Coffee Maker. I was not thoroughly satisifed with my original pot (which was the victim of an unfortunate kitchen mishap) and did do some research on pots before I purchased the same make and model again. In on-line reviews, I found many consumers had similar complaints about the pot: tendency to overflow, spillage on pouring, not keeping coffee hot enough.
Still, how could I resist the confluence of a $30 rebate from Cuisinart and my 20% off coupon at Bed, Bath & Beyond? Answer: I couldn't. The list price for the pot is $129. With my 20% off coupon, I brought it down to $112. Then I filled out a simple form, cut out the UPC, and my final cost will be $92.
I was pleasantly surprised when I began using my new pot. First of all, they've changed the spout. That completely eliminates the annoying spillage problem that was the bane of my existence.
Next, I actually took the time to read their tips (DUH!) which were clearly a response to consumer complaints. I am more careful about measuring the water I put into the reservoir so that I don't have leaking. Additionally, a quick rinse of the pot with hot water ups the temp of my coffee and keeps it hotter.
The thermal carafe is still a boon in my eyes. I am the only coffee drinker at home, and I can still get hot coffee from my morning pot when I get home in the evening. That prevents my throwing out what is getting to be a pretty expensive liquid these days.
It is true that the grinding mechanism does still require an inordinate amount of cleaning, but I don't use that function on the machine every day. It is worth it to clean up a little extra for when I serve freshly ground to company or want to treat myself with fresh beans.
I reject the claim that the pot programming is too complicated. Using the manual and following directions will get things done.
For the price, I get a great cup of coffee and can pull out the stops when I have my coffee-addict buddies over for dinner or dessert.
Cuisinart clearly upgraded this product to take care some of its issues.
