| LILvoyce's Full Review: Cuisipro 13-in. Stainless Steel Splatter Guard w/ ... |
My mother had a bad experience with frying bacon one day. She had turned her frying pan on medium to fry her bacon. She was distracted with company at the door. When she came back to check on her bacon the temperature of the grease must have been very high. She went to lower the temperature of the burner and some of the grease splattered up and hit my mother's eyes, and she had actually suffered from cornea damage. This was a very painful experience for her.
Ever since she has been using great care to prevent from repeating this mistake. She has the Cuisipro 13-in Stainless Steel Spatter Guard w/Feet. The reason I am writing about it, is because I mainly do the cooking when she invites me over to eat..lol. She does not really enjoy cooking as much as I do.
One day we were cooking hamburgers and she introduced me to the Cuisipro 13-in. Stainless Steel Splatter Guard W/Feet. She insisted that I use this guard while I fry. I wasn't enthusiastic about it but I use it when I am over at her house.
Description
This splatter guard is made out of Stainless Steel. It looks like a rather large stainless steel hoop with a metal screen attached to it. The screen has very fine holes that will let out steam and at the same time hold in grease splatters. It will not change the temperature of your frying contents, or hold in heat. This product also has 4 feet which are attached to the guard.
You can use Your Cuisipro 13-in Guard on any frying pan that is between 10-12 inches.
What I like about this product
I like the fact that the Stainless Steal Splatter Guard has these feet attached. When you are using the guard and want to lift it to check or turn your food items, you can actually set it down on your counter and it will not make a mess because the feet actually lift the guard up off of the counter.
I like the fact that right before you are done frying your burgers and such, you can place your hamburger buns on top of this Splatter Guard and the steam from the food that you are frying will actually steam your buns.
While I am not to worried about food splattering in my eyes, it can be handy when cooking dangerous items. I like the fact that you can also use this while frying and you have less grease splattering on your walls and your cooking area. Sometimes when I fry I can see a coat of grease on the hood of my range. This is a pain, and I might use it if I were cooking in high temperatures, such as frying chicken.
What I did not like about this product
You really have to make a special place for this item. You could hang this item on a wall somewhere, but I do not find the Cuisipro 13-in. Stainless Steel Splatter Guard with Feet very attractive. I would not want it on one of my walls.
You really need to find a place for this item away from the rest of your cookware. While the hoop is very sturdy I do not find the same to be true for the screen. I can just see someone placing a heavy item on this and it be ruined or bent.
I would tend to shy away from using this product on saucy items. It is just to difficult to clean. Also, when you are using this guard you can't see what is going on anyway until you open the guard. So if you are serious about burn prevention, you really need to take your pan off of the heat first and then open the guard. If your food is not done then all that grease will have soaked up into your food. I wasn't impressed.
Clean Up
The Cuisipro 13-in Stainless Steel Splatter Guard w/Feet is not my favorite item to clean. One time I used it when cooking Sloppy Joe's and I did not clean this item right away. When I went to wash it I had a very hard time getting the splatter off of this guard. I wanted to soak it buy my mother was impatient and started scratching her steel wool over it. It caused this guard to come out of shape.
You can not throw this item in your dishwasher. You have to remember to clean this item right after you get done using it or you will not be able to get it clean. Especially cooled down grease splatters can make for difficult cleaning. It is more difficult to me to clean this guard than it is to just wipe down the stove and range.
After a few months of using this product it becomes very warn out looking, and the screen ends up loosing its shape all together.
She paid about fifteen dollars for this item. I would consider purchasing one if it were only about a dollar. I feel that she was overpriced by about fourteen dollars.
Overall
Honestly, I can see my mother's point on wanting to protect herself from burns, but I find this item more difficult than it is worth. I won't recommend this item unless you are looking for a great bun warmer. I have a microwave that works just fine.
