If you like chewy granola bars, there is a very healthy market for them. Some try to bring healthier choices for you to try, and this is another one that is making its push onto the market. Curves has been bringing out cereals and granola bars. Right now, the only offerings for the granola bars are these Strawberries and Cream bars and Chocolate Peanut. I haven’t tried the Chocolate Peanut, as I wanted to see how these bars match up with the Kashi TLC chewy granola bars: Kashi Cherry Dark Chocolate

The Product

The granola bars are about 3 ½ inches long, by about 1 ¼ inches wide and only ½ inch thick. They are small in comparison. But, when you open the package, you can smell the delightful strawberry scent. That is appealing to me, as I love strawberries!

The appearance is like any old granola bar. You can see oat pieces and little flakes of strawberry pieces throughout the bar. (But, when you read the ingredients, there are no actual strawberries in this at all.) The top of the bar is drizzled with what appears to be white yogurt topping. This is the “cream” portion of the bar. You can see little chips that look like mini-white chocolate chips, but again this is the cream portion of the bar (or yogurt flavor).

The look is enticing. It really looks delicious! The cream flavor to me, was just a bit too much. I would have enjoyed more strawberries than the cream. The bar seemed a bit harder and seemed just slightly stale. I don’t know why, each bar is wrapped in a foil-type wrapper. I might just be the ingredients (crisp rice) or the cream that made it taste a bit off, but, the texture and the taste turned me off of the bars somewhat.

There were quite a few bits of strawberries in the bars. I know my comment above stating I would have preferred more strawberries than the cream might be misleading. So, I just wanted to reiterate that there were quite a few pieces of strawberries in the bar!

Chicory root extract, yogurt flavored coating, (sugar, plum kernel oil, yogurt powder [heat treated after culturing [cultured nonfat milk, whey protein concentrate, yogurt cultures], nonfat milk, maltodextrin, natural flavor, artificial flavor), rolled oats, crisp rice (rice flour, sugar, malt extract, salt), natural strawberry flavored fruit pieces (sugar, cranberries, citric acid), natural flavor, elderberry juice concentrate, sunflower oil), barley flakes, high maltose corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, glycerin, maltodextrin, canola oil, sugar, honey, tricalcium phosphate, soy lecithin, salt, peanut oil, citric acid, natural and artificial flavor, baking soda, color added, peanut flour, almond flour, wheat flour, sunflower meal, mixed tocopherols added to preserve freshness.

Overall Impressions

I have to say that the flavor was not too bad. But, there are other bars I enjoy more than this. I don’t think I will purchase these again. If someone offered me a bar, sure I would take it. But, I prefer the taste of Kashi products. They are more filling, have a lot more fiber per bar and they taste refreshing. These bars left me feeling like they were stale or something (dull comes to mind).

These bars do not keep your hunger at bay for very long since they are so small and don’t really have a lot of fibrous material in them. So, if you are thinking of using this as a meal replacement, you likely, if you are like me, will be hungry again in about 30 minutes! So, you might want to find something a bit more filling!

Since they are pushing the ONLY 100 CALORIES, people are excited about this as they know exactly what they are getting calorie wise. But, the bars are so tiny that they just don’t cut it (for me). The strawberry and cream flavor was ok. I prefer the strawberry flavor, and am disappointed that there were no actual strawberries in the bar to be found, only sugar coated, strawberry flavored cranberries. Why not just call them cranberries and cream then?

My disappointment level is quite high with this batch of bars. I will stick with the other bars that I enjoy and stray away from these. I had such high hopes for them too!
