Cons: Rude and deceptive sales tactics.
Very difficult to cancel memberships.
This review is being written to inform those considering signing up with Curves to think twice and do your research first. My mother in law joined Curves almost 4 years ago after being diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. She in the years after joining developed additional health problems that kept her from visiting the Curves in her hometown.
My wife discovered that Curves has been taking $29 per month from her bank account for past 4 years and since her mother had not visited Curves in over 3 years immediately attempted to cancel the membership. It was appalling how rude the management of the Curves was to my wife. They refused to cancel the membership and said they needed a written letter to cancel. This was done as requested but then they came back and said they needed a doctors note saying her mother could no longer exercise. It was also shocking how they kept pushing for my wife to keep her enrolled, they never stopped the hard sell. The run around we have received from Curves has been eye opening. We have spent time reviewing others stories about Curves and have found many negative accounts of how deceptively Curves runs there memberships. It has been 2 months since we first attempted to cancel membership; Curves has at this point still refused to do so.
The only concern they have is keeping as many people on the membership books as possible. Please educate yourself on Curves fine print on process for canceling your membership if need be. In my dealings with Curves management, I have been appalled by their complete lack of customer service. The pray on senior citizens and they push hard to get direct payments from members banks so that it is more difficult to cancel. They strive to make it difficult to quit.
