Pros: retain sharp edge, sturdy, attractive
I have worked as a professional chef in the past and all the rage was Henckels. Cutco is far better than Henckels. The tang (the metal end of the sharp blade that is attached to the handle) goes all the way through the handle so the blade will never come loose. Good knives should never be put in the dishwasher - the heat and hard detergents can damage them. If you care for these knives by cleaning them with warm soapy water after use and cutting only on a cutting board, they will last through generations. These knives hold a sharp edge and are well balanced. The handles are comfortable and the set looks beautiful on my butcher block island. They are a bit pricey, but considering you should never have to buy another knife set again, they are worth the price. They are such a joy to use - the steak knives go through meat like a hot knife through butter...without any sawing. I love my spatula spreader. It makes spreading mayo on sandwiches very easy and efficient and I can cut the sandwich with it too. I bought an extra chef's knife so I now have a petite chef's knife and a large one too. I also bought 2 extra paring knives so I have 2 small paring knives and one larger one. There is no job I cannot do with my Cutco knives. I was using my old chef's knives when the Cutco representative came to my door. Boy was I skeptical - I almost sent her away. But then I thought it wouldn't hurt to see her demo. I was so impressed! She cut through leather with the steak knife in just one swoop. I would not try this with my own, just in case, but I have seen it done. Cooking is so much nicer now with my new knives. People spend money on new cars, new furniture, stereos, etc, and I chose to spend mine on my knives since I cook for my family of 4 every day. Spending so many hours in the kitchen, I need quality knives. I think most homemakers do not realize the drudgery of cooking can be halved when you are able to cut through veggies and meats with ease. The serrated blades are unique in that they are actually composed of many smaller blades, which is the key to their effectiveness. Call Cutco for a demo and you should be thoroughly impressed as well. Not to mention their lifetime warranty (as long as you use them properly of course).
