| Birdfeather's Full Review: Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 DVD Player |
The Purchase
We had originally planned on buying a DVD player for the kids for Christmas....that was until my mother-in-law found out we didn't have one. She told my husband to go buy them one....not just a cheap and simple one...but one like hers! Mind you she has a top of the line DVD with 5-CD changer. My husband argued with her that they really didn't need one like that, after all you can only watch one movie at a time! So after talking all this over, my husband and I decided we better go on a shopping trip BEFORE mom did!
We shopped our local Super Walmart first. We found several inexpensive units (all under $100) but the one that my husband decided to buy was the CyberHome 300 . He chose this model for 1) Price (under $45); 2) mega features that you would only normally find in a top of the line unit (more on this in "features"; 3) Ultra Compact Size (this unit will fit anywhere!).
Unpacking
When unpacking the unit we were both surprised at how small the unit was even though we had seen it on display in the store. It was very carefully packed with styrofoam and not near the size of the box! The total size of the DVD player is apx. 9 inches wide x 9 inches in length. It is very compact and one of the features I was especially looking for. Total weight on the unit is only 3.5 pounds!
Setup
Needless to say setup was my husbands job (I'm not electronically minded at all). However this went very smoothly and was completed within 10 minutes. The hardest part of hookup was locating the electrical socket behind the desk that couldn't be moved! Once this was done we were ready to enjoy our first movie!
Remote Control
Cyberhome DVD comes with a multi function remote control. The pop up menu was easy to understand and therefore was picked up quickly by all members of the family. This was a very easy unit to learn how to use.
Mega Features
I have to say that this little compact unit had more features than some of the full size units that we looked at that cost more than twice the price of this one.
*Progressive Scan with 3:2 Pulldown
*Supports PAL and NTSC TV Systems
*Multi-function remote control (as mentioned before)
*Has Component Video S-Video and Composite Video Outputs
*Plays DVD's, Music CD's, MP3's AND JPG's!!
*On Screen Viewing for MP3's and JPG's--Way Kewl!!!
* Dolby Digital Surround Sound
*Last Memory Function
Lights Out...Time for a Movie!!
Finally it is time to watch a movie! We popped a movie into the DVD and pressed play and everyone got comfortable. The load time for the DVD was about normal time, I really can't complain about the load time at all. We viewed our movie without any problems at all. It looks like we picked out a winner here!
Warranty
The Cyberhome DVD Player comes with a one year parts warranty and 3 months of labor.
Final Recommendation
I highly recommend the Cyberhome DVD player. You really do get your money's worth with all the additional features not normally found on a system in this price range. It is inexpensive and a great unit whether it be your first or a second one for another room in the house, or for the kids (I can't wait to get another one for our bedroom for Christmas!). We paid $43.86 for this unit at Walmart. We have only been using it for several months now and have not had any trouble with it so far.
Recommended:
Yes
Amount Paid (US$): 43.86
