I was trying to gain muscle and weight, but was having a hard time getting those extra (healthy) calories needed to see any gains. I researched a lot of these Weight Gainer drinks, but was finding they had TONS of sugar and fat- two things I was trying to avoid. I didn't want to gain fat- I wanted to gain muscle. My research continued and I found CytoGainer. 610 Calories, 80-some grams of Carbs, 56 Grams of Protein, 5 Grams of Fat and hardly any sugar- perfect.
The only problem is that CytoGainer has creatine in it- 3 Grams per drink. Since there isn't very much info. on Creatine, there are no known side effects when taking as little as 3 Grams of it per shake (CytoGainer recommends you take 3 shakes a day, but they say this thinking you're getting no other source of protein and calories- they also say it because you go through it faster and thus you're forced into ordering more). I've also read that you see the same results when taking as little as 3 Grams of creatine a day (6 Grams if you have two shakes a day like I do) does the same amount of muscle growth as taking 25 Grams of Creatine a day- it just takes a few weeks when taking 6 Grams to see changes instead of 3-7 days when taking 25 Grams a day.
The only downside to taking creatine is that it absorbs water into your muscles, and research proves that once you stop taking Creatine the muscles fade away. However- I haven't been on CytoGainer long enough to see if that's true or not. I'm also hoping that since CytoGainer has 610 Calories and tons of protein that not all of the muscle gains are because of the creatine- so hopefully the muscles will stay.
Now for the muscle growth. I read the other epinion about CytoGainer- the guy said he gained 15 pounds in two months- and good pounds too- not fat. So far, he's right. I started taking CytoGainer Feb. 19th, 2003. I weighed 147 pounds. On March 1st, 2003- I weighed 153 pounds and saw some small changes in muscle growth- my arms had grown from 12 inches to 12 inches and 2/8ths in just a few weeks time.
Pros and Cons about CytoGainer:
The drink, as far as protein powders go, is delicious. So far I've only tried the chocolate and its very good mixed just with water. It mixes very easily in one of those 5 dollar "turbo shaker" cups. However, one day (and this was my fault) I filled the cup with water and was shaking the cup and apparently I squeezed the side of the plastic cup and POP- the lid flew off and I covered my two friends in CytoGainer, embarrasing to say the least.
Cons- The Price, however- some sites like MuscleMaster.Net sells the 3.5 Pound containers for 18.88 when you buy 12 shakes at once. The cheapest I've found for one 3.5 Lbs. Container is from ExpertFitness.com - it's $19.77. I recommend buying two 3.5lbs. containers instead of one 6 pound container- because the 6 pound container is like $40 dollars. If you got the 3.5lbs. bucket at 20 each, you're getting 7 pounds for $40 dollars- better buy.
