| wmcot's Full Review: DEWALT 18V Cordless XRP 5/8" - 2" Brad Nailer Kit ... |
We recently remodeled a room in our house into a "sun room" or sitting room. As part of the remodel, we put wainscoting or "bead board" on the lower wall. When you install the bead board, you also have to install the top and bottom rail. There is no way I wanted to do this with just a hammer and nails. I decided on the DeWalt Cordless 18 volt DC608K after looking at many other types of brad nailers. I didn't want to run an air compressor hose in the door and have to drag the hose over our new laminate floor, so I ruled out the air powered brad nailers. I looked around for a plug-in electric nailer but there were none available. That's when I ran across the DeWalt Cordless Brad Nailer. At first, I was a little put off by the price at $279.00 (at our local Lowe's) but when I was looking at their features, I grew more impressed. In addition, Lowe's was offereing a free second battery with the purchase. I knew there would be future projects where this would come in handy, so I decided to splurge. I am totally glad that I did. The DeWalt 18 volt cordless DC608K has plenty of power to drive even long brads through the molding and into 2x4 studs. In fact, I had to run it about half power (with an easily adjustable 12 position knob) to prevent it from sinking the brads too deeply! I used nearly 200 2 inch brads for the entire project and they were all done on ONE BATTERY CHARGE. I never had to use the second battery on the project. The DeWalt nailer takes 18 gauge brads from 5/8 inch (useful on some of my smaller projects) to 2 1/2 inch brads (for larger projects like this one.) It takes standard brads made by many different manufacturers so you don't need to buy special brads. You can use it in single-shot manual mode or in "bump mode" at 4 to 5 brads per second. The whole kit comes with the Cordless Nailer, rechargeable battery, 1 hour charger, a belt hook and even a pair of safety glasses. Everything fits into a single, latching box for extreme portability and easy storage.
THIS IS A SUPER TOOL! I DO NOT REGRET PAYING MORE FOR IT SINCE IT IS EXTREMELY PORTABLE AND WORKS AS WELL AS ANY OTHER NAILER I'VE SEEN!
