Grill'n recipes finally make it to the PC

Pros: DVO consistenly offers new recipe content.
Cons: GUI and Database structure need updating in order to be a stable product.
The Bottom Line: Buy a discounted version so you can purchase the new recipe content and import it to another recipe software.

I love to grill and when I saw there was a Recipe Software available for my favorite grilling book...I bought it.
I like that all of the books' recipes are in the software. I wished there were more videos of the "how-to" since Cook'n has decent video capabilities.
I really wanted to like Cook'n. At one time, it was prominently displayed at Sam's Club, computer stores, and on the internet. It was giving MasterCook a run for its money and even made the claim at one time that it was the reason MasterCook went out of business….obviously not true.
My experience has been dismal with the product itself. I looked through the DVO collections and this one has the greatest amount of content for the price…at that time.
Regrettably, after a couple of uses, the RCT file corrupts, leaving the program useless. What I mean is, when I would go to open it, it would show the splash screen, then the RCT error and shut down.
Many emails from support, and I am starting all over. Clean install after wiping away every trace of the original setup. Regrettably, this occurs consistently and I have yet to keep an install longer than 30 days without having to wipe it clean and start over. What a pain!
To its credit…
DVO does offer online IM chat and email, in addition to phone support. Most of the advice given worked, other than explaining the ongoing crash problem.
DVO consistently provides new recipe content from name brand cookbook names…Betty Crocker, BBQ Bible, to name a couple.
DVO provides free updates/upgrades for the life of the product. Personally, I hope that Cook’n gets a complete re-write as the GUI is outdated and the database obviously needs to be updated so it doesn’t crash….which seems to be common based on many web reviews and content.
