Fast and Secure Wireless in the UK

Pros: Great security and fast wireless connection. Easy to set up.

Cons: Nothing.

The Bottom Line: You don't have to be a genius to configure this. I love the added security this product offers. Great speeds and lots of added options.

I bought this wireless router/modem about nine months ago and apart from one minor configuration difficulty I had (being a novice), it is continuing to serve me well. It came with an additional DWL-G122 AirPlusG Wireless USB adapter which works well my laptop and network.



The D-Link DSL-G604T router has built in 802.11b/g high speed 54Mbps wireless connectivity and ADSL modem. It can work up to 150 times faster than a dial up modem! It is extremely easy to install and I had it up and running in just a few minutes. The first thing I did was update the firmware. This is very important because the latest firmware for this product has added some great tweaks and more operational facilities. The firmware update can be found on D-Links website but make sure you get the UK version.

Open up internet explorer to bring up the web based configuration utility which will bring you to the set up. Give yourself a username and password and set up your ISP connection. There is a help section but a lot of the set up is visibly obvious. Once you have configured the d-link be sure to go to the commands section to save all as all settings will be lost on reboot if you don't. I am making this sound too easy but honestly I really am a novice and I didn't find it difficult at all. This router/modem works with AOL broadband and it was because of this I had to phone the d-link helpline. They were extremely helpful and all was configured over the phone in ten minutes.

Prevention from DOS attacks.
Firewall and intruder detection.
Four additional Ethernet LAN ports.
Support for Gaming.


Why Should You Buy It?

The signal strength has never gone down lower than 36Mbps on my laptop and that’s in the garden! My pc is upstairs. 99% of the time it holds out at 54Mbps. A couple of times the configurations got messed up (a virus and a wireless telephone were probably the causes) but I had it back to normal in no time. You can save the settings to your hard drive if you don't share your pc. The antennae seem a bit flimsy and loose but I think it's just made that way. It certainly doesn't detract from the great signal I receive. The actual router is pretty sturdy and stays upright well on the four feet. I have had this working fine with a NETGEAR(WG511 v2) 54Mbps Wireless Pc Card too so it's pretty flexible.
For good security and a great connection speed you should buy this product.
