Cons: Wish Type II slot was deeper in the unit. It sticks out too much.
The Bottom Line: The D-Link Wireless G Notebook adapter gives my daughter's Dell laptop the ability to work with wireless routers. It's easy to install and does the job well.

Great news!! I recently purchased a D-link WNA-1330 (WNA1330) 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter. The costs of owning a computer keep rising with each additional little thing I have to purchase for it.
Why A Wireless Adapter
This D-Link wireless adapter was purchased after realising my daughters laptop didn't have wireless internet access built into it so it couldn't be used with the D-Link Wireless G Router we recently purchased and reviewed. The laptop was not able to be used with the the wireless system she had in her school and is also available in many public places like hotels, the local library and coffee shops.
The reason for a G router in the first place was because my daughter came home from school for the summer and wanted to use her laptop in our home. She told me the router was the way to go, sooo... it was purchased. Dad keeps spending $$$.
The Adapter and Setting It Up
The WNA-1330 is a small piece of equipment that easily plugged right into the port my daughter's Dell Laptop affords. That was easy. In fact the whole installation was simple because there really wasn't much to do after plugging it into the port. It was the simple hook up of the D-Link Wireless WBR-1310 G Router that already had most everything prepared for creating a secure network including what they call advanced firewall protection, in our home.
The box came with the Wireless G Notebook adapter and a CD Rom. When the CD was put in it automatically configurated everything so all we had to do was follow a few prompts. That was it!
Now with this card connects her laptop with the our home computer we now have a network where she can go on line without wires and she can check Emails, surf the WEB and do any chat she could with our home unit.
We have windows XP. This adapter works with this and with Windows 2000SP4. I'm not sure what is meant by the information telling me it works with Windows Zero Configuration Unity, but it does work with what I have. The guy in the store assured my daughter, "no problem. The box did state that minimum requirements on the Windows was also a
CD ROM Drive
20MB Hard Drive Space
Cardbus Type II Slot. That's what her laptop has on the front side corner of her laptop.
Last Thoughts
There really isn't a whole lot to talk about in reference to this small adapter. Once set up it allows the laptop to work with other routers and not just the WBR 1310 we have in our home. That gave my daughter a lot of freedom. In our home the adapter makes contact with our router throughout our 1,600 sq ft. home. We also get a signal on our front porch and back yard. Once the laptop is turned on we get almost instantaneous connection that has never yet dropped. Can't beat that. In other envirnnments, I have used it in an office building, it connects to their wireless systems too, just need their security code to get in. No problems of connection or drops.
So now I can go to Starbucks, spend a few bucks on a cuppa jo and relax and do some work on the laptop.
The hook up was kind of mindless, even to this computer challenged guy.
What I don't like is that it does stick out a couple of inches from the laptop. It can be taken out when not in use but then must be reconnect via a couple of buttons on the laptop, no real problem at all.
I do wish I had a laptop that already had the Wireless Notebook adapter built in, but I don't. Most of the new notebooks coming out this year seem to have it already built in. That's good, but except for having to plug this in and press a couple of buttons, it really isn't much of a problem setting up and using it. It's also good to know that it has a one year Warranty and they offer 24/7 support in case of any problem.
