Pros: Low price, great picture, great sound quality
Cons: No power switch on remote, pausing playback causes picture quality problems, unlit remote.
The Bottom Line: Even though this player has served me well, DVD players have moved forward technologically and prices have dropped. Better players are available for the price, look for them.

| heckonwheels's Full Review: Daewoo DVG-3000N DVD Player |
I've had our Daewoo DVG-3000N DVD player for over a year now so I think I'm in a position to review it. Like others, I got it for the price. I was out Christmas shopping and saw an under $75 price for a DVD player and said "what the heck" and plopped it in the cart.
Up until this time, I had plugged the computer with the DVD into the back of the TV. This worked relatively well except for the lack of a remote. The picture and sound was still far superior to our VCR.
So I got home from the store, unpacked the unit and installed it. No problems here, it was a standard install and went very well...I used the RCA jacks from the DVD player. The video went straight to the TV and the sound went to our home theater system.
Next, I got a DVD and whipped out the remote to turn it on. Must've sat there for five minutes trying to figure out where the power button was until it dawned on me that there was no power button on the remote. That's correct, Daewoo must be concerned about our couch potato status because you actually have to get up, go over to the unit, and manually turn it on. The on/off button does have a nice, solid "click" to it, though...
Be forewarned that when you hit the power switch that it's an immediate cut in power. No graceful shutting down if the unit is playing or shutting of the disk tray if it's open. Everything just stops.
Also, on my unit, whenever I pause a movie and then begin playback again, I get really poor picture quality. If I press stop, and then play, it picks up where it left off without any problems but pause just does something to it.
Other than those two problems, I've had no others with this unit.
Picture quality is very good. Better than the PC connection for sure, and miles ahead of the VCR. A built-in screen saver helps save your TV's picture tube too.
Sound quality is also very good. Played through our sound system, it's an amazingly clear signal.
The remote can be confusing but...other than power...it has what I need. Unlit, it can be hard to find what you're looking for in the dark, but once learned you have a sufficient amount of control over the unit. The subtitles are easily changed or turned off with the remote and I have had no difficulty in zooming in to specific chapters. Pictures can be zoomed in and the fast forward comes in flavors ranging from 2X speed to 16X speed, as does the reverse.
The unit looks nice. It's chrome-silver looks and green glowing display look good with my other AV components around it. It's easy to clean and lightweight too.
To tell you the truth, the DVD player market has made some significant strides since I bought this one, and I'd have to admit this player would not be on my list today. This unit will one day be replaced with a better one but until that day comes, it serves it's purpose well and has justified it's low price. I'm just sure I could find a better one now for the same price or lower.
If you're looking for that great DVD player to go with your big screen or HD monitor, this is not it. But if you're looking for second player for the kid's room, the garage, bedroom, etc., you could do worse than this unit...but with the players out there today you could probably do better too.
