bree231977's Full Review: Danby B001615WSM Countertop Dishwasher
My husband and I are living in a mobile home until we build a house. They do not come with built in dshwashers, nor is there space for a standard portable rollaway model. I discovered countertop models when I was searching for an 18 inch rollaway, and thought this would fit better. There were several manufacturers that offered a countertop model. I bought this Danby one because it was the only model short enough to fit under my cabinets, and it just happened to have the best price as well, about $219.
It's about the size of a large microwave, and has a quick-connect adapter for the faucet. It's no problem to run the tap until hot, connect the hose and turn it on. I have the hose wrapped around the base of my coffee maker when not in use, so it doesn't look gawky.
I have been very pleased with my purchase. It has several wash cycles, including express wash and intense wash, but the default regular wash does fine on everything so far. It even cleans baked-on cheese. The express wash did not clean as well, presumably because it skips the additional water heating and uses the temperature that comes out of the tap. It does not dry dishes completely, but neither does handwashing! I find if I open the door slightly ajar when it's done to let out moisture, they air dry just fine as in a dish drain. I also discovered that how well it washes depends somewhat on the quality of the detergent you put in it--generic did not work as well as good old Cascade. Don't pinch pennies on your detergent.
The noise is comparable to a regular built in that is not noise reduced. As our kitchen is part of the living room, it is just a few feet from the couch. We watch TV just fine while it is running. I also have turned it on as I leave for work, so it's done when I get home. It is ok to leave the tap on while away, since the hoses have valves that only use water when needed to run.
It comfortably acommodates several plates and glasses, and has a silverware rack that you can place anywhere to make room for a small saucepan or skillet. Medium to large pots and pans will not fit. My glass meatloaf and casserole dishes do fit. If all I have to hand wash is my large skillet I made dinner in, that's fine with me. It works well for the two of us--I run it about every other day.
I highly recommend this product for 1-2 people in a small living space such as ours or a starter apartment.
