| pippadaisy's Full Review: Dannon Light 'N Fit Non-Fat Yogurt With Splenda |
Both my husband and I are huge yogurt fans, although we tend to like different types and brands of yogurt. In addition, he's a huge fan of Splenda, so when I was asked if I wanted to sample the new Dannon Light 'n Fit Non-Fat Yogurt with Splenda, I was pretty excited.
::: Diet Yogurt Varieties... :::
Dannon Light 'n Fit Non-Fat Yogurt with Splenda has jumped on the latest diet bandwagon and added Splenda to a reduced calorie product. Boasting a mere 60 calories per 6-ounce serving, it has no fat, less than 5 mg cholesterol per serving, and has over 10% of 7 essential vitamins and minerals, plus other stuff that's good for you.
Ingredients for the strawberry variety I tried, for those who deal with food allergies like my family does, are:
Nonfat Yogurt (Cultured Grade A Non Fat Milk, Modified Corn Starch, Kosher Gelatin, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3), Strawberries, Water, Contains Less Than 1% Of Modified Corn Starch, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Sucralose, Sodium Citrate, Malic Acid, Potassium Sorbate (To Maintain Freshness), Red 40.
::: Diet Does Not Equal Good :::
Since I'm currently trying to get the weight off after not one but two babies, I'm all for trying ANYTHING that might help in that regard, and I was excited to receive my sample of Dannon Light 'n Fit Non-Fat Yogurt with Splenda. Even better was that my sample was strawberry-flavored. Upon removing the lid, I was a bit taken aback at the coloring, as this is a premixed yogurt (when I eat yogurt, it's usually the kind that has to be mixed), and it was a lurid neon pink. However, a free sample is a free sample, and I gamely spooned up my first taste.
At first taste, the Dannon Light 'n Fit Non-Fat Yogurt with Splenda had a fairly decent strawberry flavor, and I said to my husband "You know, it's not bad!" Then, the aftertaste hit me. Chemical, chemical, chemical, and I felt as if I had swallowed something out of a test tube rather than something that is supposed to be good for me.
Seeing as I am not a huge fan of Splenda, I asked my husband to take a bite, since he is a Splenda addict, replacing sugar with it wherever he can. He didn't think the aftertaste was due to the Splenda, but rather, artificial color and flavoring. Since I'm well used to the issues with red food coloring from cake decorating, he may well be right, but the caloric savings I'd gain from Dannon Light 'n Fit Non-Fat Yogurt with Splenda just aren't worth the nasty taste. This is one product that will not be finding its way into my shopping cart.
Please note: I received my sample product from Fleishmann-Hillard in exchange for posting my honest thoughts in this review here on Epinions.com. As you can tell, I posted my honest thoughts.
