It has 60 calories and no fat! Are you sold yet?
Dannon Lightn Fit Yogurt with Splenda was a difficult one for me to pass up, especially since yogurt has some great health benefits to it, but I was skeptical. I have had a few bad experiences with yogurts in the last year or so that have discouraged me from eating yogurt altogether, so it is a good thing I got a chance to try this one out, because I liked it and will probably jump on the yogurt bandwagon again.
My Criteria for a Good Yogurt
I do not like yogurt that taste really fake/artificial. I use artificial sweetener (Splenda mostly) quite a lot (probably too much), but do not want it to be too sweet. Also, if it has a strong fake fruit taste to it, there is no way Im going to ever eat it again (and most likely will stay away from the brand altogether). I tend to like my yogurt to have a nice consistency to it, meaning not too runny but not too heavy. The color has to be pleasant. I will not eat anything that looks metallic or like mold (sorry, no blue cheese please). Also, if you are going to use a sweetener, please do not make it taste sweeter than if I bought the full fat/full sugar version.
How Did Dannon Light Weigh Up (Pun Intended)?
I was pleasantly surprised by Dannons new yogurt. When you opened the yogurt, you got a nice scent, but not too overpowering. The flavor was good too, and not too sweet. When I tried Dunkin Donuts new lite latte I thought I was going to die from the sweetness, but I did not have that problem with Dannon.
Also, the color was pleasant (I had the strawberry-banana flavor). It was strong on the strawberry flavor more than the banana, but I did not mind that at all (I like both fruits equally).
They lose some points with the consistency factor though. It was a little runny for my liking. All is forgiven here because they do have chunks of fruit in it, which I like and which I think helped make it feel less runny.
I havent tried it yet, but I bet this would be even better when made into a smoothie.
Dannon Product Information
Here is some nutritional information starting with the ingredients:
Ingredients: Nonfat Yogurt, (cultured Grade A nonfat milk, modified corn starch, Kosher gelatin, Vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D3) Strawberries, Water, Banana Puree, Contains Less than 1% of Modified Corn Starch, Natural Flavor, Sucralose, Sodium Citrate, Potassium Sorbate (to maintain freshness), Malic Acid, Annatto Extract, Red 40. from the label on the yogurt.
Dannon Lights 6 oz container has 60 calories, 0 fat, a low amount of cholesterol, and a good amount of a couple of vitamins, notably Calcium, B12 and Vitamin D levels.
Availability of flavors are: Blackberry, Blueberry, Cherry Vanilla, Lemon Chiffon, Orange Mango, Peach, Raspberry, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Strawberry Kiwi, Vanilla and White Chocolate Raspberry.
You can get these in 6 ounce containers, or if you really like them, you can buy a variety pack of Strawberry, Peach & Raspberry. They even have 8 packs and 12 packs, although I believe the 12 pack has 4 ounce containers.
Overall
I will most likely buy the yogurt. It had a good flavor and is a good size for snacking. Plus, I find it difficult to pass up on a 60 calorie snack that is actually nutritious and doesnt taste like cardboard (like most low calorie snacks).
Thanks to all who read/rate.
