I've always enjoyed hot sauces. I love to add that hot sauce and get a good burn going in my mouth. It's great to just build on the burn until the brain has to release some endorphins. I generally adhere to the philosophy that capsaicin is your friend. I am always looking for tasty sauces to light up my world.
Of course, even I have my limits. I'm ashamed to admit it but there are sauces that go beyond even my twisted range. One of the earliest of the killer hot sauces is Dave's Total Insanity Super Hot Sauce. This sauce weighs in at over 49,000 Scoville Units. That is a system used to measure the heat of sauces or peppers. To put this into context, the regular Tabasco Sauce is under 2500 Scoville Units. It does not take much of the Insanity sauce to get off.
I can remember my first time trying the sauce. I was naive enough to use more than necessary. Boy, was I in for a surprise. My mouth was burning for quite some time. I have since learned that one must use caution with this sauce. I have found that small amounts can be used to heat an entire pot of chili or soup.
It would be pointless to try to talk about taste or flavor when it comes to this sauce. Yes, there is a slight bit of pepper flavor in the beginning and then the heat starts. The heat expands. Do not, for the love of God, drink water at this point. That will make the heat expand even further. Try bread placed directly on the tongue to help ease the heat. Wow, this stuff is amazing.
What I like to do with this sauce is take the bottle to parties. You'll always have the macho would be cowboys that think they can handle anything. It's fun to watch them take some of this sauce. Then they feel the heat coming on. They run around the room frantically trying to cool the heat. Sadistic bastard that I am, I usually have a glass of water in hand to help them out.
I like this sauce but it's not for everyday use. A very small amount is all that is required. It's also interesting because I now have numerous sauces that go well over 100, 000 Scoville Units. Some even approach a million Scoville Units. This is still one of the original of the super hot sauces. I always make sure that I have a bottle on hand.
This is one that I recommend for heat fiends. It's always great for people to discover the heat for themselves. After the initial use, one quickly learns respect. This type of sauce is not for amateurs but it is certainly something that can provide for much amusement.
