Pros: Of Interest to anyone interested in the natural world, particularly meteorology.
Cons: Short equipment lifespan.
The Bottom Line: Seriously consider buying a weather station by another manufacturer. The Davis Weather Monitor II is just too unreliable with multiple sensor failures within 2-4 years of installation.

| veritas1's Full Review: Davis Instruments Weather Monitor II |
Although relatively inexpensive (for a weather station), costs can mount if you need to buy additional cable to connect the station to the sensors. But what is particularly disappointing, is the lifetime of the sensors. After two years, the outside humidity sensor on my unit ceased to function. A little less than four years later, the outside temperature sensor ceased to function. Two weeks after that, the rain gauge ceased to function. (A pattern was developing.) The warranty on the Weather Monitor is only one year, so none of these equipment failures were covered. With the high replacement costs ($75 for the rain gauge and $125 for the temperature/humidity sensor), and uncertain lifespans, I chose not to replace the components. By the way, all sensors were installed according to directions by a professional who had installed many of the units. I did contact the company, but they did not offer to replace any of the units. If I were to buy another weather station, I'd spend more to get a quality product. Even while it did function, the outside temperature gauge did not seem to reflect reality -- it was off by about 2 degrees (water in the birdbath froze even though the temperature showed 34 degrees).
