The Days Inn
I recently moved to Arizona with my parents to undertake an adventure (for lack of a better word), that maybe some day I'll write about. I traveled from Vancouver, Washington to Eugene, Oregon then to Reno, Nevada. Drove by Las Vegas without stopping. Over the Hoover Dam into Kingman, Arizona for a night stay and then finally to Prescott Valley, Arizona. This trip included myself, my two parents, the cat, and my two chinchillas. Talk about a car full!
My parents moved to Arizona for the sole purpose of taking care of my grandparents. My parents flew out, looked around for about two days and bought a house. The sale of the house was in the process of clearing and therefore we couldn't move in quite yet. So, what do we do? We stayed at a hotel/motel.
My Stay:
My stay at the Days Inn was a rather lengthy one. It lasted five days, from 10/27/03 to 10/31/03. Considering the length it was, it was an overall nice stay. Being home is always nicer, but the hotel overall met our needs, price range and made for a comfortable stay. They take pets too!
The Rooms & Prices: The free booklet that I received from the office shows all the Days Inn hotels and their prices and locations. It also shows that the one in Prescott Valley won the Chairman's Award For Quality and shows five suns for their Sunburst Rating. They are FEMA compliant, whatever that means.
It had 59 units. The prices and rooms are as follows... 1 Ad. $59-$79, 2 Ad. $69-$89, Dlx 2 Qns $89-$99, Suites $99-$119. Ten dollars to add an adult and Ten dollars for a roll-away.
My parents and I stayed in the deluxe room with 2 queen sized beds. We didn't have to pay the regular price though. My father told the manager or woman at the desk when he was getting the room that he'd be staying for more than just a few days and basically asked if there was anyway he could get a deal. By him asking this he was given The Manager's Special and paid $59 dollars a night for a room that would normally be between $89-$99. This price was for the three of us, the cat and the two chinchillas. The total bill for the five days spent there cost 261.88, taxes included.
They accept Visa and Mastercard for sure. I'm not sure if they accept any other methods of payment. I don't have a AAA card, but they show a little advertisement that says "show your card & save."
What Our Room Came With:
The hotel offers a pool, a heated jacuzzi, a laundry room, free coffee and continental breakfast for all guests.
Our room as I said was a deluxe room with two queen beds. The beds weren't half bad and weren't as unforgiving as some of the beds I've slept on at hotels. The room also came with two garbage cans, not that this is a priority. One was in the bathroom and one was near the sink/vanity outside the bathroom door. The room had one ice bucket, bathroom, Quasar television with remote, luggage rack, Oster 1200 blow dryer, box of nose tissue, shower cap, one little bottle of shampoo, one little bottle of lotion, phone (free local calls & AT & T for long distance), Coffee Maker- Sunbeam 4 cups, Sanyo mini-fridge, Friedrich air conditioner/heater, a two drawer dresser, table and two chairs and three of each towel (wash cloth, face towel, body towel) for the three people staying there.
I'll also comment on the lighting while I'm at it. It really can be a pain to stay in a dimly lit room when you're trying to read or do something intricate, like tweeze my eyebrows. The lighting wasn't half bad considering some of the other places I stayed at along the way. There were two lights between the beds, one near the television, one near the window, one near the sink/vanity, and one in the bathroom. All in all, not too shabby.
Location, Location, Location!
The other great thing about the stay here was the fact that it was located right next door to Denny's. You could easily walk over there for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or coffee and pie in the evening. On the other side there was a Woody's convenience store that sold Chevron gas. There's also a Super 8 right near by, I think it was on the other side of Woody's. Across the street and sometimes diagonal, but still very close by and in no particular order was Safeway, Kmart, Albertsons, Bank Of America, Bank1One, Jack In The Box, Arby's, Burger King, Taco Bell, McDonald's, and probably a few other places I've forgotten.
According to the free booklet I got from the hotel they are 8 miles from casinos, 10 miles from museums, 8 miles from fishing/boating/hiking/historic area, 10 miles from Prescott's Whiskey Row, 30 miles from Jerome Ghost Town, 45 miles from Sedona, 138 miles from the Grand Canyon, and 7 miles from Yavapai Downs Racetrack Fairgrounds.
Conclusion-
It was an overall nice stay. I was comfortable. My parents were comfortable. My pets were comfortable. The price was right. The location was good. The room had all the right features and above all it was clean. The only thing that I could possibly ask for would be for the room and bathroom to be a little larger. But hey, I'm not staying at a resort and I'm not paying resort prices.
