Eclipso pulled the wool over the superheroes' eyes by posing to be a B-level villain. It worked because it kept him under the radar as he tried to collect the many shards of a giant black gemstone called the "Heart of Darkness".  The objective was to collect all the pieces and take over the Earth by possessing everyone. It is later revealed that Eclipso is the first embodiment of the Wrath of God. Remember the whole story about Noah and his ark? Eclipso is the one responsible for the flood. But Eclipso was later replaced by the Spectre. This new revelation about Eclipso's power makes him a complete powerhouse instead of just another costumed supervillain and his addition in the DC HeroClix: Cosmic Justice set will cause problems for many that try to oppose him.

Unique Eclipso (silver ring) is a straightforward game piece to use. For starters, it's evident that he has the power of flight with an 8-square range to attack foes from long distance. He also has a long dial with ten clicks (out of twelve) that ensures that he will be around for a long time. I would expect nothing less from the former Wrath of God and Angel of Vengeance. In his case, he's more like the Angel of Revenge. His look has been updated a bit but he still looks menacing enough for people to want to back away from him at all times.

Looking at his defensive power, it's evident that he will be a tough nut to crack starting with 16 defense and Impervious. This lasts for a total of three clicks before he switches to Toughness for another two clicks. He then obtains three clicks of Barrier before he is defenseless. Some may see Barrier as a useless power but it's a great ability for tying up the enemy until reinforcements come to help you.

Another useful ability is Mind Control, something that reflects how Eclipso takes possession of other people through his black gemstones. For the first four clicks in the speed dial, it would be unwise to get too close to Eclipso in fear of being mind controlled. It doesn't help that his attack value starts with +11 with gives him a better chance of actually succeeding in taking over some characters from the opponent. Why get your hands dirty when someone else can do the job for you?

Both his attack value and damage slots do not have any special abilities attached to it. But he really doesn't need anything else in his possession. He already does a stunning natural 4 damage to his opponents for three clicks. That's harsh especially when someone on his team can boost that value with Perplex. It doesn't help that he can attack from long distance as well.

But the scary thing is his point value. Unique Eclipso is only worth 108 points. This is a steal! Here is a powerhouse that can sit on any team without taking too much room. Compared to others, his powers may be lacking but this is far from the truth. I would not want to be on the receiving end of this character as he can use his opponent's figures to attack his opponent, and then finish the job himself after they have been weakened. Without a doubt, he is one of the best pieces to come out from this set and still holds up even to this day. Just like his comic book counterpart, people will treat him with kid gloves as he comes in under the radar for the kill. Do not overlook someone whose resume includes the job description "Wrath of God".
