Overall a good coffee maker. I need a programmable machine because I must have my coffee waiting for me when my alarm clock goes off. The spring that controls the pause and serve function was the dealbreaker on this one, very sturdy and not prone to popping off without prior notice. My previous machine (black and decker) had one that would fall off while I was rinsing the coffee pot and filter holder after use, with the Delonghi, at least I was spared crawling around on the floor looking for an itty bitty spring. The permanent filter is both a good and a bad feature at the same time, good because if you run out of filters you can still make coffee, bad because it's not real easy getting wet grounds out of the permanent filter. I compromise and very carefully use the filters I bought for my old machine with this one, and it makes cleanup easier.
The only con became apparent the first time I tried filling it with water, perhaps I am less agile than the average coffee user, but the only way I can get most of the 12 cups of fresh water into it without needed a mop for the kitchen floor is to take the water tank cover off, then hold a kitchen towel under the coffee pot as I pour the water in.
The price was good, at Sam's club it was 29 dollars about what I would pay for a black and decker at Walmart.
