When one lives in Northeast Ohio, being able to get to the outdoor grill in the winter is not an easy task - especially when there is a foot of snow on the deck and the winds are gusting to 40 mph.
My husband is on a cardiac diet and when we eat dinner at home, we usually grill chicken breast, fish, or lean pork chops on our outdoor gas grill. No mess, no fuss. However, I thought an indoor grill would be a good investment for the winter months and I began searching online for opinions on the different brands of grills.
After much research, I decided to purchase the DeLonghi BG24 after reading the many positive reviews. I bought the grill from Bed, Bath, and Beyond with a 20% off coupon and felt it was a fantastic deal.
I was impressed by the sleek, modern appearance of the grill, as well as the die-cast aluminum non-stick cooking surface.
This grill would be a welcome piece of equipment to my newly remodeled kitchen.
My first grilling experience on the DeLonghi BG24 was exceptional! The two pork chops were perfectly cooked and juicy, even though they were very lean.
I used the grill several times throughout last winter, and although the meat or fish was always grilled to perfection, the issue of clean up was becoming more and more of a chore.
I always lightly oiled the grilling element, and even though it had a non-stick surface, it was difficult to remove the crusted residue left from the marinade. The grill was too large and cumbersome to clean in my new stainless steel sink, and not wishing to scratch the sink, I began cleaning the grill in my laundry tub. I had to bend down to scrub this monster of a grill with a bristle brush dispersing black grit and spots all over the walls as well as myself.
By this time, I was getting angry at the DeLonghi grill and even more angry at myself for making this silly purchase and creating so much work just to grill two chicken breasts or two chops!
Even more upsetting was the storage factor of this huge grill. I had no place to store it except the oven, so every time I wanted to use the oven, I had to remove this three piece, cumbersome grill from the oven and find a place to set it.
I was fuming as my husband would calmly watch TV. He was getting off too easy while I was cooking, then wrestling with the enemy trying to clean and store this piece of junk!
Needless to say, I bid my farewell to the grill at a local consignment shop. Before it was even tagged for sale, a customer came in and purchased the grill on the spot!
I certainly hope the new owner has a better relationship with the DeLonghi BG24 than I have had. I am going to begin researching a small George Foreman grill!
