| dmjerbear's Full Review: DeWalt 18v Cordless Drill/Circular Saw Kit DW995KS... |
My wife was looking for a birthday gift for me, and as we just moved into a "fixer-upper" house, this kit seemed perfect.
This is my first set of power tools, and I don't think I'll ever move from cordless to corded tools. When you can get this much power and no cords to worry about, who would? You can just bring the tool with you wherever you want to go, and not have to bother looking for outlets (which is nice, considering our home has no electricity on the 2nd floor :)
The screwdriver / drill works wonderfully. The 2-speed control is great for selecting more torque or more speed. And the clutch is a nice touch, although I just usually have it cranked all the way up. Plenty of power for just about any purpose. My only complaint is that this thing is HEAVY! My father-in-law's 12-volt DeWalt is much easier to hold up for a sustained time, and it can almost perform the same work as my 18-volt.
The circular saw is great to work with as well. It's not as powerful as a corded saw, but for most light work it gets the job done. It even did an OK job at cutting through bush roots, though I wouldn't recommend it if you want to keep the blade in good shape.
The charger only takes an hour to charge, which is great. And the charge lasts a long time.
