| PhoenixFlight's Full Review: DeWalt D55155 2 HP 4 Gallon Hand Carry Electric Co... |
While I initially purchased the DeWalt D55155 Electric Air Compressor for light jobs around the house, I soon came to the conclusion that this compressor is great for tackling any job no matter the size.
I carry and use many of the DeWalt line of tools because they take abuse like a Timex watch and just keep going. All of the tools from DeWalt have warranties but I have yet to use them. Fortunately the D55155 that I have looks as new today as the day I bought it four years ago and works like I purchased it yesterday.
What captured my attention at the local Home Depot when I first saw the D55155 was its compact size. At just under two feet wide, slightly smaller than that in length, and a mere 13 inches in height, I knew that I could easily place it under my tool bench in the garage while keeping it ready to use at all times. The two quick couplers are easily accessible on the front of this unit as are the gauges and the regulator adjustment control. The D55155 comes with a standard three prong plug, 120V AC, with a cord slightly less than 5 feet in length. I modified my D55155 with an OSHA approved plug in under 5 minutes so if and when I need it for larger projects my plug is up to code.
The D55155 has a single 4 gallon tank that is OSHA approved with a ball valve drain located beneath the tank for quick and complete drainage to increase the life of the tank. Whenever you are not using a compressor it is wise to leave the valve in the open position to keep it dry and rust free on the inside. All of the main components of this compressor are protected by the way it is designed. In addition, for transporting the unit it has a large handle located on the tank, large enough for two handed carrying, and on the right side of the unit it has a nifty setup to wrap the cord to keep it from under foot.
Also, the D55155 has an oil lubricated pump with a cast iron cylinder that will make this unit last longer than others without these accessories. The weight of this unit is right around 60 pounds which is light enough to be carried with one hand for us big guys. Although DeWalt calls the D55155 a 2HP compressor it actually runs at about 2 ¾ HP running the pump at 3400 rpm. Running the compressor at 100 PSI it takes just over ten seconds to recharge when your air gets low.
Overall I have to say that I am totally satisfied with the D55155 as both a small and large job compressor. The two forward facing couplers allow me to have two guns plugged in at the same time saving me time and energy in the garage from having to switch from larger guns to the smaller finish nailers I use for some of the jobs I tackle.
For household use I dont think that I could have found a better, more compact, durable and handsome unit than the DeWalt D55155 Electric Air Compressor for the price I paid.
