| acdcanibal's Full Review: DeWalt Heavy-Duty 12 1/2" Portable Thickness Plane... |
I bought the Dewalt planer to replace an old industrial planer. At first I was a little concerned about the size of the tool, but I have since found the size to be one of its best features.
My first task with this planer impressed me. I planed a pile of two foot long cedar to size with excellent precision, no sniping, and with such a smooth cut that NO pre finish sanding and little finish sanding was necessary. The planer was a little reluctant about feeding some of these short pieces all the way through and a push stick was a must.
My only complaint with this product is the power. While I ran the cedar and pine down almost as deep as the planer measures, I was only able to take hardwoods down 1/32 before the motor began to bog down and whine.
Also, the planer must be set on a small stand with the out feed table overhanging the edge or the wood chips will build up on the table.
