DeWalt Heavy-Duty 12v Compact 3/8" Adjustable Clutch Drill/Driver Kit DW953K-2
For as long as I can remember, I have been all thumbs when it comes to fixing things around the house. In the past when I owned my own home, I tried to fix just about everything that broke down, but I only made things worse.
I remember the time I thought I would save a few bucks and try to fix our 20-year old hot water heater. I knew this thing was an old piece of crapola but I did not want to pay a thousand bucks for a new one, in those days I would rather spend the money getting drunk everyday than buy anything new for the house.
I had absolutely no knowledge on how to fix hot water heaters or anything else for that matter but I decided I could do it.
I was pounding on the side of this ancient water heater attempting to open the back panel. As I was lying on the ground, I noticed I was in a puddle of water. Before I could get off the ground a large piece of rust fell from the heater and gallons and gallons of scorching hot water came pouring out all over me, I had first-degree burns from my neck all the way down to my crotch. You would think after having my penis boiled like an Oscar Myer Wiener I would have learned my lesson.
But years later I did something even more stupid.
My roof needed to be fixed and water was leaking from my kitchen ceiling every time it rained. For weeks and weeks I tried calling my worthless brother in law to come fix the hole in my roof. After hearing excuse after excuse on how busy this big tub of lard was, I decided to get on the roof and fix the hole myself. If I was to wait for this lazy creature, my house would have been turned into one big indoor swimming pool.
Unfortunately for me my decision to get on the roof came after drinking about 16-18 beers.
I started to climb the ladder with one piece of plywood, three shingles, a hammer and a six pack of beer. I got on the roof and I immediately started to stumble. I grabbed onto the chimney, as I franticly reached out to save my life, the six-pack of beer slipped out of my hands and down the chimney. As I was attempting to save my precious beer the hammer slipped out of my hand down the side of the roof and through my next door neighbors window.
I was not about to pay for this a.ss-wipes window. I laid as quietly as possible on the roof until my neighbor stopped screaming my name. I guess the ladder on the side of the house was a good indication of my hiding spot.
After attempting to be quiet for so long, I fell sound asleep on the roof and never got around to fixing the hole.
After reading two of my more memorable home improvement debacles, you get the idea. Im not the drill/ power screwdriver type. After I gave up the heavy drinking and started making big money, I would hire people to do all of the work around the house. But now that Im an old man with very limited funds, I needed to buy this DeWalt, Drill and Screwdriver.
I need to be able to do very basic jobs around my apartment. So, I bought this thing used for $50 (New price $125) at my neighborhood hardware store. It could not have worked out better.
I was able to take out the striped screws that I had hanging out of the wall in the matter of seconds and then I turned a little lever on the side of the gun and I was able to put two new screws into the wall without a problem. I was only putting a soap dish in the wall but after I was finished and the soap dish was up, I felt proud of myself. I felt like I accomplished something on my own.
So, I went onto a bigger job and screwed in my new vanity set for my bathroom. The same job that took me all day to mess up and put humongous holes in the wall with striped screws, took me less then 10-minutes with this great tool.
I would definitely recommend this item. I have numerous jobs around the house that thisDeWalt Heavy-Duty 12v Compact 3/8" Adjustable Clutch Drill/Driver Kit DW953K-2 can handle with ease. This is my first handymans tool and I am able to use it like a pro. If you have ever struggled with screwing things into the wall or if you just need to drill holes, this basic tool will be sufficient for all of your household jobs.
The durability of this product appears to be excellent. When I bought the drill it looked as if it has been through some tough jobs. While I was using it, I dropped it directly on the part that drills and nothing happened. I picked it up and started back on the job. From the feel of durability, I think this drill will last me a long time.
If I had one complaint, it would be with the 12v battery pack. Im not sure if it is because this is a small drill or if it is because I bought this one used, but I needed to stop and charge the battery after the first job. This was no big deal for me but for someone that needs to do several jobs in a short period of time, they might want something with more battery life.
I give this drill 4 out of 5 stars.

Sorry I have been away. I spent the last several months in the hospital and in and out of the doctor's office. I feel great now.
P.S My next review will be better, I'm a little rusty.
