I hated this movie. It was horrible. I expected more comedy to come from Danny DeVito, but it was weak. So the knew guy who moves into town Buddy (DeVito) is a middle aged man who has no idea what he wants in life or what will make him happy. He has been moving his family around from city to city looking for his niche in life, but can find it. He wants to be able to be seen. To be somebody not just another smock who everyone overlooks. He begins to decorate his house with the hopes of it being seen from space.

His neighbor Mathew Broderick is an eye doctor, who wants to create some traditions around Christmas with his family. He is a very stiff necked person who won’t let loose his pride to help his neighbor out. Instead these men begin to fight, basically from the moment they meet. The wives get along great on the other hand.

They acted okay together. I wasn’t drawn into the whole idea of this movie; I came out hating Christmas more because they aren’t making good movies anymore. These men’s families are very stereotypical of an American family, one with depressed children who hate their controlling parents; the others do whatever they want because their parents let them.

The acting wasn’t that great. The climax sucked. The ending was the best part because I could leave and they finally showed the true spirit of Christmas with the men became friends. That only took their wives and family walking out on them before either man realized it enough to become a bigger man.

It did show that it is possible to change no matter what your age is in life. Traditions aren’t everything and more often than not you will bond with someone when spontaneous action is happening.

I guess I’m just a scrooge right now, but this movie did not put me in the Christmas spirit. I didn’t enjoy more than 10 minutes of this movie. So if you’re looking to get in the spirit, I don’t recommend this movie.
