shirleybonsell's Full Review: Black&Decker Extra - Tall Can Opener
I actually won this can opener from an on-line contest, so the price was definitely right! I needed a new can opener since my old, under the cabinet model had fallen apart, so with my $20 prize winnings, I chose the Black and Decker Extra Tall Can Opener EC450.
Compared to my previous experiences with electric can openers, this one is head and shoulders (pardon the pun) above the competition. Granted, the machines I used previously were made 15 plus years ago.
Anyhow, the features that I really like about this can opener:
1. The height. Taller is better, at least when it comes to can openers. My husband likes to make chili on Sunday afternoons, and the taller can opener is much easier to use for a big can of kidney beans than the standard size model. The base is stable, and the can opener has no trouble handling large size cans without tipping over. This is such a simple idea I wonder why no one thought of it sooner.
2. It lets me multi-task. I'm the kind of person that likes to do more than one thing at a time, so I can put a can on this can opener, start it going, and grab something out of the fridge while the can opener finishes. No need to hold it down all the way around the can.
3. Cord storage. There is a place underneath the unit for excess cord storage.
4. Knife sharpener. Like many can openers, there is a slot on the back for sharpening knives. Caution: not to be used for scissors.
I would recommend this can opener. It does the job, I like the smooth lines, and it beats a manual can opener!
