Pros:All-in-One speaker system that is at the top of the tier.
Cons:Weird setup that some may question and miss out on great sound.
The Bottom Line: If you want an easy to setup all-in-one sound system, Definitive has your answer with the awesome sounding system. Truly a treat for the ears.
This was yet another speaker product where I had not heard of this company at first, but was blown away when I heard it in person. This 5.1 channel speaker system will by no way be better then a "homemade" 5.1 system, but if you want an all-in-one system you cannot go wrong with this. I wanted to have an easy setup and not have to worry about buying seperate speakers for each channel.
Setup: When I first got these speakers home, I read the manual to see how they needed to be setup. I used the Pioneer Elite VSX 50 as the reciever, and monster speaker wire to connect everything. The one thing I had noticed was Definitive wanted the speakers setup in a weird way. Instead of plugging everything into the reciever based on position and plugging the sub into the reciever as well, they wanted the front right and left speakers to be plugged directly into the sub, and then plug the sub into the front right and left channel of the reciever. This setup puzzled me as I did not understand why they would ever want the sub plugged in as a speaker. I decided to put trust into the company and setup everything the way they wanted it to be setup.
After Setup: The setup was not bad and after I did, I quickly turned on the reciever and set everything up to hear the sound. Music sounds great, and clarity was at its best for the size speakers you get. At night I put a movie in (blu ray Iron Man) and noticed several things. The speakers, although loud enough, seemed to not be mind-blowingly loud like in the theaters. The thing I did notice is that the clarity was amazing, and after re-tweaking the settings on the reciever the speakers were plenty loud and voices were very clear. After watching the movie I understood why they setup was the way it is. The bass out of the system sounds great, and the front right and left speakers plugged into the sub add even more defined bass that I would of never been able to notice if I did not try their setup.
I have the speakers connected to a Pioneer Elite VSX 50 reciever, and the Pioneer 140 3D blu ray player. It is used in my home theater with a 102-inch screen and using the Epson Powerlite 3010. The speakers sound great and the sound truly emmerses you into the movie. Another great speaker purchase I made that I will never regret.
