Being a minimalist, I was looking to upgrade from a pair of Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble's, which I've had for many years. So, basically, I was looking for a better sounding speaker, with out a larger foot print, or in this case, a paw print.

I've had the, Definitive Technology Pro Monitor 800's, for almost one year. They are fully broken in (DefTech advises 40 hours of moderate volume level playing) and sound terrific! They sounded terrific out of the box, but really, I have no way of going back and comparing them with how they sound now. I just know what my ears tell me, and that is this: The, Definitive Technology Pro Monitor 800's, are fantastic. I still have my original Cambridge Soundworks speakers, hooked up to another system, in another room, and the comparison is night and day. Not that the CS's are inferior, they still sound great, too, but the DefTech's have more life, higher highs, and better mid's. As for the bass response, they are quite remarkable all by themselves, considering their smallish drivers, but I have a nice subwoofer to balance the music spectrum, and together, as a complete system, they are superb!
I have the Pro Monitor 800's attached to speaker stands, and though they are small enough to hide away, they are also good looking enough to "show off".
If you are looking for a compact speaker, with great looks, and superior sound qualities, then you really must give these speakers the opportunity to shine. I did, and now I'm sold on Definitive Technology. If I need anymore speakers in the future, for instance, center, rear, or the day when I'm no longer a minimalist, a much larger speaker, DefTech is the one I'll be going with.
