Pros: Lots and lots of compartments; computer sits securely inside.
Cons: A tight fit for the battery.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this bag if you are looking for a Nylon case that does more than just hold your computer.

| jo.com's Full Review: Dell Classic Nylon Carrying Case Inspiron Notebook... |
When I bought my daughters Dell Inspiron Computer so I could have a laptop and she could have some money to by a state of the art tiny Apple, I got her Dell Classic Nylon Case Inspiron Notebooks 1F071.
About the case:
I will start with the dimensions. This is a relatively large case for a 2 ½ year old computer. It measures 14 inches high (and another 1 ½ to the handle) by 17 inches wide by 2 ½ inches deep. However if you are looking for more than just a cover, I love this bag.
There is a handle on top of the bag. It measures 7 1/4 inches across and is made of pleather. It is soft and comfortable to hold.
The shoulder strap measures 51 inches fully extended. I find that if I have it on my shoulder for long periods of time, my shoulder starts bothering me so I will carry it by the handle. I will then either hold the strap and the handle at the same time so the strap does not drag on the floor or I will make the strap short so it will not drag. A nine inch padded piece is in the middle section of the strap. This makes it much more comfortable to have on my shoulder however as compared to my daughters new computer this one is heavy! The padding on the strap has a non skid surface that is wide and bound by material so that it actually does act as a way to avoid the strap from falling off my shoulder.
The bottom of the bag has two rubber type feet that are tread like. This allows the computer to stand straight up and saves the bottom of the bag from wear and tear. This bag looks new although it s 2 ½ years old and has had a lot of use! The handles and straps are attached with what looks like plastic rivets. They are so strong. There is no evidence of any pulling apart of the straps from the case. The bottom line here is that this is one durable bag.
The padding on the shoulder strap says Dell as does the front of the case. The first thing you will see on the front is a flap that closes with two Velcro strips. I would have thought that by now the Velcro would have lost some of its stickiness but it has not. It stays shut all the time. Inside this compartment are 4 areas for pens or pencils; three shallow pockets for business cards or a small calculator; a cell phone holder that has a Velcro closure; three pockets with Velcro closures two of which measure 7 inches by 5 3/4 inches and the third measures 5 ½ inches by 6 inches. I put diskettes in these pockets; I put my Flash Drive in one of them and then there is a smaller one that also closes with Velcro. This measures 5 inches across by 3 inches high. This is perfect for my Wireless PC Card. Not only does this front compartment use Velcro it also zips up each side with two separate zippers.
Going around to the back I find a very large pocket. It goes the entire width of the bag and is a bit over 10 inches in length. Inside I found (recently) a deep, narrow holder which I have not used. I could put my phone in it, pens and pencils, paper, or even dollar bills to tip the various people at airports and hotels. This does not expand as in being expandable but it will widen a couple of inches. This is enough for me to put in a couple of magazines; a paper I might be writing and even a paperback I am reading.
Two zippers open the main compartment of the bag. These zippers can be locked together if you wish. When opened I find a padded compartment that closes with Velcro. Inside this compartment are actually two separate sections which are slightly padded. They are padded primarily because this area rests on the computer. You can put anything you want in here. I put papers that I do not need readily accessible. When I travel I put in all my menus and destination information.
The main compartment is padded all around the bag and on the bottom. I realized only recently that there was a Velcro piece at the back of the base of the bag. When I lifted it I found that it covers the zippered compartment which houses the padding. The zipper is underneath so it is not readily accessible which is good. It will not unzip unless you work at it.
There four Velcro straps. These four close to make two that secure my computer and it is secure. I feel it would be secure even without the straps but this is an additional bonus. The computer fits in tightly because next to where it sits is an adjustable padded divider. When I say adjustable I mean it can be moved slightly to make the small compartment to the right of the computer a little smaller of bigger. This is the only negative of this bag and I will not rate it down because it does not affect performance just convenience. This side compartment is where the outside battery goes when not being used. (The product page comments that there is room inside to comfortable fit the battery. The exact wording is Our case interiors are optimized to fit Dell Inspiron batteries and modules.) I do not know about yours but my piece from the part that connects to the computer to the part that goes into electricity is long. Not only is it long but the external battery itself is large measuring 5 inches by 2 inches so it is a bit awkward trying to stuff this unit into the side compartment. But it does go in even if it is not in very neatly.
My final thoughts:
The Dell Classic Nylon Carrying Case is more like a workstation which is the name for the Nylon Carrying Case for another Dell. It is not just a cover or case for my computer. It houses all I need in order to use my computer and that is important to me. It means I can take it and my pocket book anywhere I want and not have to carry another bag for papers or computer related equipment. Other than there just needing to be a tad more space inside it is excellent and rates 5 stars.
Please feel free to leave me a question or comment.
