The Bottom Line: For the money, I got a quick, nice-looking computer that will be useful for years to come.
I bought this computer just a couple of weeks ago, so I have yet to find any cons with it. In fact I like it quite a bit. It was, like all computers, expensive, but I think I got my money worth.
I changed some options from the stock 2350 and have 40x10x40 CD-RW and 16x DVD drives as well as a 30 GB hard drive. I also got a 17" CRT monitor, an enhanced multimedia keyboard, harmon/kardon stereo speakers, and 256 MB of DDR-SDRAM. Biggest and best is the Intel Pentium 4 chip running at 2 gigahertz with 512k of L2 cache.
It comes with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Wordperfect productivity pack and other software, built-in ethernet card and 56k data/fax modem, 2-button scroller mouse and all the normal things like a floppy drive and several USB connections, parallel and serial ports, etc.
The computer was easy to set up, and would be for anyone even if they weren't very computer knowledgeable as all of the connections are color-coded. It worked great right out of the box, and easily out-runs the Intel Celeron 2 Ghz Gateway desktop I recently set up for my sister.
I haven't been required to call Tech Support for anything, but from what I've heard from others, it's pretty good. I'll update the review if I ever use it myself.
Overall, the computer is very fast, with Windows XP and the Intel P4 (plus the connected cable modem), it can be up and on the internet in less than 30 seconds from being turned on -- a HUGE improvement over the older and slower computers I have. I have yet to cause it to really slow down at all, even while running several large programs at once.
My only gripe with this new toy of mine is this enhanced multimedia keyboard under my fingertips. The multimedia buttons make it easy to control DVDs, music, surf the internet, etc. But to make the keyboard take up less room width-wise, they have taken what I fondly call the "6-pack" buttons and changed their setup. Rather than having the Home, End, Delete, Insert, Page Up and Page Down buttons in two rows of three buttons, they have them in three rows of two buttons. Being a touch-typist, I'm used to the keyboard being set up the way it's always been set up on every other computer I use and have used. Now, when I reach for the End key, I invariably hit the Delete key instead, which is VERY annoying.
I usually stick to my Playstation 2 to play games, so I'm not sure how good this is for gaming as it doesn't have the top-end sound and graphic boards, but it has easily done everything I've requested of it, so I think it would do quite well for everyone, gamer, and regular as well as novice computer users.
