Pros: Has every port imaginable, unique looking palm rest design, keeps going and going.
Cons: Frame/outer case feels kind of flexy when picked up, lack of USB 2.0 ports.
The Bottom Line: This has been a good product for many years. Any experience I have had with Dell customer service has been excellent as well. I only buy from Dell or Lenovo.

| howecollc's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 8200 (8TWORH) PC Notebook |
My brother and I each bought an Inspiron 8200 in October of 2002 spec'd with the 1.7 GHz processor, 256 MB of RAM, UXGA screen, and 40 GB hard-drive. Price was $1260 each, no tax. Neither of us were very computer savvy at the time, and had we been aware of the pending arrival of USB 2.0, we probably would have waited. The FireWire port takes up the slack to some extent, as I've always had the PC card slot filled with an EVDO card (still waiting for someone to explain how I'm supposed to use the second PC slot while accommodating the thickness of the bottom card). Anyway, both machines are now almost 7 years old and still kicking. We actually bought the 3 year extended warranty thinking we would need it. The brother's machine has had nothing done to it other than one virus issue that necessitated having it serviced. I, being a larger fan of the pixelated female form than the brother, have had a few more viral issues over the years; but none costing more than $50 to fix. The hard drive was replaced with a used one for $90 at five years of age, and I replaced the CD drive with a used one for $30 last year. I have become more computer knowledgeable over the years, and upped the RAM to 1 GB a few years ago (when it got dirt cheap), and do wipe and load the operating system about once a year to keep things running tip-top. If the screen goes out, I'll finally pitch it; but as it is, the thing performs as well as any other new notebook out there in the $600 and under price range. You don't throw the old Miata convertible out just because the new one is a hair faster, do you?
