Pros: Decent Display
Cons: Fit and finish leaves much to be desired. Technical support is the same.
The Bottom Line: Don't buy it. Go Toshiba. You get a lot more for your money, and the product is superior, insofar as fit and finish is concerned.

| Chris_Schaefer's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 8200 (8TWORH) PC Notebook |
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 8200, complete with 1.8 gig P4 processor, 64 MB video card, 512 MB RAM, DVD/CD-RW, internal wi-fi card, and burlwood inserts. First, don't waste your money on the burlwood inserts. They're plastic and cost Dell about a nickel. Second, and I didn't know this, these computers are made in Malaysia. Third, fit and finish is terrible, the case itself, being flimsy and thin. Forth, the speakers are cheap, relative to the cost, which was about $2500. Technical support is handled by India. You make your 1-800 call and they do the best they can, which is not, at times, enough, but they are very hospitable and patient. I do get the feeling they're in training because they, contracted by Dell, can't solve all of the problems Dell is responsible for. True, Dell has the top of the line display locked up (they probably have a patent on the "Ultra Sharp UXGA" display), which was the deciding factor for me, because I'm prone to eye strain headaches. But looking back, I'd have gone high end Toshiba. Toshiba makes a solid laptop and the speakers are top drawer, and it even has a sub woofer built in. Insofar as the screen. The "Ultra Sharp" part means you can look at the screen from more of an angle without distortion. I look straight ahead, anyway. It really shouldn't have factored in to my decision to buy. Hind sight is always 20/20. Buy the Toshiba. You'll be much happier.
