In today's day of technology it is really nice to have an extra hand that can reach out to the cyberspace world without weighing a lot. Dell's Mini 10 net book is the way to go. This will only cost you a few hundred dollars and it is very and will fit in places that your laptop will not. All you have to do is give Dell a call and the will assist you in installing anything inside of your new net book in a matter of just a few seconds. The main thing to remember about this net book is that it is what it is, and that is a smaller version of your laptop. Of course this will not have the speed or all of the actions that your big laptop has, but it will get you by without breaking your bank account.

The basic physical description of this net book is a lot smaller than a regular laptop. This only weighs a little less than three pounds and has a 5" x 8 ¾" viewing screen. The overall dimensions of this net book is 10.5" side to side x 8" from front to back x at the thickest point it is 1 ¼" tall. This is a high glossy black in color on the top and a black bottom half. The Dell insignia is stamped into the top of the net book. On the right side of this net book there is four different connectors and these consist of a Ethernet connector, a headphone jack, a microphone jack, and a USB connector which allows you to connect to any external devices. On the left side there four other connectors and these are: a VGA connector which allows you to connect to another monitor or projector, two USB 2.0 connectors, an antenna in connector, and the last one is a 3-in-1 media card reader (SD/MS/MMC).
On the back of your net book, you will see a security cable slot and an AC adapter connector. When you open this up you will see a normal keyboard and an on/off button in the upper left side. At the center bottom there is a touch pad with right and left touch pad buttons. At the lower left side you will also see to lights that when powered up the will light up and tell you the battery life and the hard drive activity light. At the top where the screen is you will notice a camera in the center and a little hole one on the right and one on the left. The one on the right is the camera activity indicator, and the one on the left is the internal microphone. This is what you will see when you pull it out of the box.

Once you pull this out of the box, you will probably be wondering if this is all that there is. This net book will come fully loaded with everything that I have listed. All you have to do is plug it in, and wait for about 2 minutes for this to boot up. Once this is booted up, everything that you will want to do will be done by way of the touch pad. You can do all of the traditional things, you will just have to do them via the touch pad. Things such a vertical scrolling (slide your finger up and down on the touch pad), for side to side scrolling (slide your finger on the pad from right to left).
This net book also has the option to do circular scrolling, if you put your finger on the far right side of the touch pad, and make a clockwise motion this will allow you to scroll up and down (vertically). If you place your finger in the far bottom center and make a clockwise motion, this will allow you to scroll from right to left (horizontally).
Just like a laptop this little net book has warning beeps, you do not want to hear any beeps. Because, if you do then this means that something has failed. For instance, if you hear 1 beep this means a possible system board failure, 2 beeps means no ram detected, 3 beeps means possible system board failure chip set error, 4 beeps mean ram read/write failure, 5 beeps means real time clock failure, 6 beeps means video card or chip failure, 7 beeps means processor failure, and 8 beeps mean display failure.
We have been using this for several months and loved the picture quality even though it is a little small. If we wanted to watch movies on this we would have to hook up an external device or hook this up via the Ethernet cable to get any movies on this. Also if we wanted more programs we would have to use an external hard drive to install any such programs. For the most parts this is very easy to navigate and you will have no problems with accessing the internet with this small of a net book. Our daughter has used this several times and she just loves it. We still have to watch her because she is still a child and you know what happens if you take your eyes off of them while they are on any computer. If you have to have her do any homework on this she can still do it, you will just need to purchase a flash drive and then copy it to another pc to be able to print it.
There are still a lot of options that we have yet to try and access. When we turn this on there are 6 icon that we see and they are the recycle bin, the big blue E (internet explorer), Dell support center, Microsoft office, Skype, and windows media player. These are all very easy to access just double clicking on the icon. The battery will last 4 to eight hours depending on what you are doing with it. If you are trying to watch a movie of course this will use a lot of your battery but if you are just listing to music then you can use this for several hours. This also fits in the outside of a backpacks pouch very easily. It is also so light weight you will never even notice inside.
If you need something small and that will handle with ease and is easy to navigate then this is what the doctor ordered. But, you have to remember that you are still limited as to what you can actually do compared to the regular size laptops. Granted both the laptop and the net book will help you out but if is it the weight that you are worried about then this net book is the ideal product.
