| avaneesh's Full Review: Dell Latitude D610 (D610SAPP) PC Notebook |
Dell Latitude D610:
I have the Dell Latitude D610 for 9 months now and a D800 for a year before that. I also have an inspiron 6000 at home. This makes a very good comparison bet. The various DELL laptops:
Pros:
1. Light weight: weighs close to ½ of the Inspiron 6000/ D800 laptop (But the Inspiron 6000/ D800 have a 15.4 in. screens.) Starting weight starts @ 4.7 pounds.
2. Very functional Laptop, it has integrated 1000 Mbps Nic, S-video out, RS232/RJ45/ parallel/ ext. monitor ports plus 4 USB ports
3. Easy Volume control buttons.
4. Integrated Smartcard reader and TPM security chip (helps locating the laptop)
5. fast processing power of the Centrino processor and with the 7200 rpm HDD option, the seek time is much faster.
6. Very good heat dissipation, the laptop hardly gets hot, primarily because of the centrino processor.
7. The finish is very scratch resistant, enabling it to look good for a longer time.
8. Docking station feature, not available in the Inspirons.
9. Very good customer service, they want to bend over backwards to keep the customer happy. Easy replacements.
10. Very very good battery life. One charge lasts for 3+ hours for a small 6 cell battery. With the 9 cell it is even better.
11. Very reliable Laptop, never had a hardware failure on the D610 or D800 or the Inspiron 6000 ever.
Cons:
1. Not very feature rich laptop, but then, it is meant to be a business Laptop
2. No Wi-Fi ON/OFF switch, drains the battery while trying to connect to networks when you dont want to.
3. The quality of the display screen is only marginally good. Could have been better. Also the Wide-screen feature would have been great.
4. Keyboard seems a bit cheap.
5. Touchpad lacks the scroll function and is not very sensitive to taps.
Overall it is a very good Laptop. Scores very high where it counts: performance, reliability, build quality, battery and durability. Definitely recommended.
